Presidential hopeful's son held (Loaded gun at airport)

Little Rock - The son of a US presidential candidate was arrested at an Arkansas airport on Thursday with a loaded pistol in his carry-on luggage - a week after his father said the Virginia Tech shooter could have been stopped if other students or teachers had been armed.

David Huckabee, 26, later pleaded guilty to the misdemeanour of possessing a weapon in a prohibited place.

Both he and his father, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, hold a concealed weapons permit.

Neither the former Arkansas governor nor David Huckabee returned telephone messages seeking comment.

Huckabee had a .40-calibre Glock pistol in his black carry-on bag, Little Rock police officer Arthur Nugent said.

Eight live rounds were in the gun - none in the chamber - and a nine-round clip was in the bag.

It is not unusual for people to forget they have a gun in their carryon luggage, Little Rock police's Terry Hastings said.

A US transportation security administration spokesperson said Huckabee - whom she declined to identify by name - was co-operative and that other passengers had not been endangered by the incident.

Huckabee got a one-year suspended jail sentence and 10 days of community service.

He will be on probation for a year.

Fines and costs totalled $855.

TSA can seek separate civil penalties, the TSA spokesperson said.

Gun laws to the law abiding are harrassing taxes.

I predict Huckabee will get more votes from the 2nd amendment rights folks. :)

But I’ll be voting for Duncan HUNTER, another strong 2nd amendment rights candidate.

Geeze...a National Guardsman at Logan Airport taught me in October 2001 that one mustn't take fingernail clippers on an airplane.

One would think that a son of a Presidential candidate would know that you don't take a firearm on a plane.

Why, he merely forgot that his daddy has not yet been elected...

Maybe I'm not reading this right. It seems to say that he was arrested, pled guilty and got a year's probation all on Thursday?

What a busy day!

After all the security measures, I learned keep my gun stuff away from my traveling stuff. That includes clothing and shoes.

He probably should receive a harsher sentence for being stupid.

“...arrested, pled guilt, and got a years probation...”

The wheels of justice do seem to be working pretty fast here...

That is the problem with “lookalike luggage”; sometimes you check the WRONG pieces. The stuff you meant to carry-on is headed for the Cargo Hold. You are toting stuff that shouldn't’t be in the Cabin.

These articles, including the VT saturation coverage, endlessly refer to a semiautomatic pistol magazine as a “clip”.

I don’t want to shoot with anyone who doesn’t know the difference between a clip and a magazine.

It probably doesn’t apply here, but I heard rumor of a Federal CC Permit several years ago. Aparrently these are VERY hard to get and held almost exclusively by Congresscritters and their buddies. The word I heard is that with one of these you can carry ANYWHERE, even on planes and such. Is it possible that his permit was one of these and the guy that busted him didn’t realize that he was covered by it and the “best PR” way out was to quickly “ajudicate” the mess so it would go away?

LOL! Who's that nekkid guy shooting on the 25 meter lane? Oh, that's Shooter 2.5, he's flying tomorrow. An image I could've lived without. Blackbird.
