Ending an investigation that clouded the tenure of former Senate majority leader Bill Frist, federal prosecutors have decided not to file insider-trading charges against the Tennessee Republican for his sales of stock in a family-owned chain of hospitals.
The U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York and Securities and Exchange Commission staff sent Frist letters last week signaling that they had closed their joint, 18-month investigation. The letters essentially cleared him of wrongdoing.
Frist said in a statement that he "acted properly" and that his only reason for selling stock in his trust accounts was to "eliminate the appearance of a conflict of interest."
"I've always conducted myself according to the highest ethical standards in both my personal and public life, and my family and I are pleased that this matter has been resolved," Frist said.

Love the use of scare quotes. How about finding out if the prosecutors “acted properly”?
The election is over, so no more need to pursue trumped-up charges.
Bingo.
It took 18 months to find this out? The man tried to play by the rules and still got screwed.
Where is the Rep Jackson of La. with his 90,000 frozen bucks. Why is he being hidden and the MSM dumbing this down to nothing?
I guess because the MSM think all us US citizens (real ones ) are dumber that used toilet paper.
I am now to the point I have to double check to see if a reporter has the date correct.
The partisan witchhunt, Pelosi’s quoted “Culture of Corruption” has proven hollow. A false victim of their show trials. Leftist McCarthyism “ZOGBYISM” has wound up with an improperly hounded and “blacklisted” Republican who’s only crime was not being a Democrat.
When does Tom DeLay’s case get to come to trial? December of 2008?
They’ve stalled this out so more Donk staffs can work on fishing something up.
So when does the investigation of Reid begin on his real estate deals in Nevada.
People,
Tactics trumps policy every single time.
Iraq did not decide the last election. Corruption scandals did. The GOP endured a perfect storm of those. The exit polls make it very clear that Iraq was NOT the most commonly cited reason for a vote being cast in Novemnber — it was corruption scandals.
While the Democrat rhetoric does not talk about this and the media does not, you can be sure the Democrat tacticians know what the exit polls said. THAT IS WHY THEY FEARED THE US ATTORNEY FIRINGS. They feared that the GOP tacticians, who also saw the exit polls, were going to point new US attorneys at them and create the same perfect storm on them in 2008.
Priorities of attorneys need to be specified in such a way that it captures Democrat scandals and gets explicit indictments of them. You can’t outright assign them to go after Democrats. You have to, rather, pick priorities for the attorneys that you know will focus on Democrats. An example would be to make it a priority to investigate construction contracts for welfare offices, union offices, in general anything that is likely to have been a Democrat earmark. That is rich territory for getting Democrat indictments.
I guess because the MSM Bush Administration thinks all us US citizens (real ones ) are dumber that used toilet paper.
