Triple dipper sure knows how to pack a punch
By Howie Carr

Governors Councilor Marilyn Devaney is a triple dipper. She collects not one, not two, but three checks every month from the public trough.
Three kisses in the mail, and this is how she shows her gratitude to the taxpayers: Devaney throws curling iron at clerk reads yesterdays headline.
Last year the headline was Pols license yanked after St. Pat crash. And, back in 2001, Loan to Devaney Probed.
In return for her, ahem, service, we pay this Ma Barker of Middlesex County $26,025 a year.
She makes another $5,000 a year on the Watertown Town Council.
And she collects another $58,000 a year in a pension left to her by her late firefighter husband. That figure includes a bump for an employment-related injury or illness that apparently arrives in a separate check, which means she could perhaps even be called a quadruple dipper.
In all, shes making about $90,000 a year from the taxpayers. Youd think shed be happy, but instead, she went to the Sally Beauty Shop in Waltham the other day and allegedly hurled a still-boxed curling iron at 36-year-old Adriana Latif.
Latifs offense? She had the temerity to insist on seeing a drivers license before accepting Marilyns personal check, to which Devaney responded, in a Kennedy-esque fashion, Do you know who I am?
Then she identified herself as a member of the Governors Council, to which the only proper response is: You have the right to remain silent.
Then she took another clerk over to the store window and pointed at the governors councilor plates on her PT Cruiser.
Finally, Marilyn Pettito Devaney picked up her bag, the one with an unpurchased curling iron in it, and threw it at Adriana Latif. After Marilyn stalked out, the clerks called 911. The cops had arrived at the store by the time Marilyn called back to apologize.
This happened April 13. Now Marilyns friends are crying buckets for her, saying how disorganized and discombobulated she is. Adriana Latif isnt buying the poor-old-lady defense.
OK, she said, if thats true, why is she still on two boards? She should be retired if shes not in her right mind.
But she said she was sorry, Adriana.
Sorry doesnt cut it all the time.
Did it really hurt, Adriana? I mean, the curling iron was in a box.
It stung me, not where I had to go to the hospital, but she still assaulted me.
This is the life of Marilyn Devaney. Shes always getting into scrapes. State Auditor Joe DeNucci is her second cousin, and he used to be a middleweight boxer. But shes got a lot more bouts under her belt than DeNuch, most of them at Watertown Town Hall.
Every other Tuesday night, she argues and interrupts and yells and interjects as Council President Clyde Younger bangs his gavel. She usually begins by saying, Ive been here for 27 years . . .
Last year, the local weekly put together a feature about her weekly outbursts under the headline The Devaney Code.
Devaney did not return repeated calls to both her State House office and her home yesterday. Too bad, because I also wanted to ask her about the traffic stop in Watertown last January when she was cited for driving without a license, and the accident last year when she was charged with driving an unregistered vehicle with no valid inspection sticker.
Meanwhile, back at the Sally Beauty Shop, Adriana Latif reports a threat was left on the phone yesterday. He said his name was Tony. I dont know no Tony.
Poor Marilyn Devaney. When it rains, it pours. I think Adriana may be on to something - about Marilyn going home and, you know, smelling the roses. Ciao, Marilyn.
Oh good, Col. Hunt is gonna be on today he’s very well versed but a heck of a lot of fun too...love it when he subs for Howie and gives away Howies office stuff...LOL
never too early for the Howie Carr Live thread, eh?
;->
well I was gonna post the column but might as well make it part of the thread. yes never too early
As Howie would say: Marilyn, walked with your arms outstretched. It makes it harder for them to throw the net over you.
The Col. was on yesterday during the first hour actually...

Bennett will be with us to discuss the second volume of his overview of U.S. history America: The Last Best Hope (Volume II): From a World at War to the Triumph of Freedom.

Thanks...missed yesterday because the weather was just perfect outside. Yes should be a good show.
Yes always good to be prepared look over our papers up here and look for stuff like “animal problem stories” which i usually forward to Howies show and a few others...those are usually amusing and provoke convo.
mornin Everybody! I should be around today.
Adriana? Tony? What is this, the Sopranos?
Yes, I know it was the James-Younger gang, but a saw a blurb of Sandra Bullock and one of her fans wanting to kill Jesse.
I’m listening on WNTK.com. I swear the local guy at 4PM first sounded like Don Imus.
I think his name is Kantor.
he actually sounds like a guy that has done radio in Peoria.
Howie said that Paula Zahn told him when she was in Houston, the station sent her to learn how to pronounce something in the Houstonese dialect, otherwise, she wouldn't be accepted by the audience.
I ran into a guy that said he grew up in same Brooklyn neighborhood as the Bennetts. Somebody asked how could Bob [Bill's brother] represent Bill Clinton? This guy said he asked Bill that, and the short answer was "When the President asked you to do something, you do it."
I wonder if Bob ever got paid, or did Billery shaft him?
I'm not all that enamored of Bill Bennett. As Sec of Education, he took all the heat off the continuing and expensive failures of the US educational system by going after gun control in the schools. It made him look good, and absolved him from doing anything to address the real educational problems.
They consolidated Lincoln’s birthday and Washington’s birthday. Soon to change name again to “Car Dealer
Specials Day”
Global warming update: it’s April 27 late afternoon and
41 above here in Beverly.
It’s warmer here, by about 15 degrees.
