Dutch Police Search For Natalee Holloway (Dig In Yard Of One-Time Suspect Joran Van Der Sloot)

Officials Dig In Yard Of One-Time Suspect Joran Van Der Sloot

Dutch police searched the yard of a one-time suspect in the disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway, the Aruban prosecutors' office said.

Using thin metal rods and shovels, police and forensic investigators on Friday churned up the earth outside the home of Joran van der Sloot, the last person known to have seen Holloway alive before she vanished nearly two years ago during a school vacation on the Dutch Caribbean island.

"The investigation has never stopped and the Dutch authorities are completely reviewing the case for new indications," Vivian van der Biezen, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office, told reporters gathered outside the home.

About 20 investigators arrived from the Netherlands on April 16, van der Biezen said. She said they also searched the home, but she could not say why. They left after a couple hours inside the walled property.

A statement from the prosecutors' office said: "The team has indications that justify a more thorough search."

Holloway, an 18-year-old from Mountain Brook, Alabama, vanished in the early hours of May 30, 2005, the last day of a five-day vacation to celebrate her high school graduation with 124 other students.

She was seen leaving a bar with van der Sloot, then 17, and two Surinamese brothers. The brothers, Deepak and Satish Kalpoe, were jailed and later released after a judge ruled there was not enough evidence to hold them.

Van der Sloot, a Dutch citizen who has been attending college in the Netherlands, was jailed for about three months. He has said he left Holloway alone on a beach after they kissed and he did not harm her.

Calls made to the law office of Paulus van der Sloot, the suspect's father, were not immediately returned Friday.

At least 10 people have been arrested and released without charges. Hundreds more have been questioned.

The Dutch marines, the local coast guard, the FBI, hundreds of volunteers and others have scoured the island's dunes, beaches and trash dumps for Holloway. Scuba divers and sonar-equipped coast guard ships have also examined the seabed.

I accidentally flipped through 8 seconds of Fox last night. Greta had exactly this tidbit of "news" running at the time.

She stays on top of her obsessions. How she stays on the air is anyone's guess.

I really doubt that any trace of that poor girl will ever be found. Too bad.

Guessing that she doesn’t have much of a choice covering this kind of news.

After watching the same news from Oreilly and then Hannity and Colmes, there isn’t much else that can be discussed. And Probably why I don’t watch her.

So, she sticks to the news that the other two shows don’t cover.

Her poor family and with the Ocean there, so unlikely any evidence on land.
Such a horrible crime.

What? No evidence on land? They have finally dug up the VanDer Sloots’ backyard, and hauled off evidence in a refrigerated truck. Besides that, they removed eight bags of evidence from inside the house this week.

It is looking more like Natalee may have been killed on the Sloots’ property, and possibly buried there.

Stay tuned.

“That poor kid was run through a shark long ago”

Seems that early on in the investigation there was a connection with a boat taxi operator that has never been mentioned since. I’ve always suspected that he took Nataline to dine with the sharks and have wondered why nothing more was ever heard about that connection. If I did it, I wouldn’t have left my victim on land when I was surrounded by an ocean that would destroy any remains in a short time.

Are you sure about this with any confirmation. That would be great news.
But his father is some judge and if his son did this it would appear insane to keep any evidence let along significant amounts on their property.

I’ll stay tuned and hope you prove correct. Her family deserves some justice.

The PR campaign to drum up more business for Aruba's tourist industry must've been a flop.

Don't know why else the Dutch would bother. Even if they could convict him, he'd be out before we knew it.

This has been like watching the Keystone Kops on a drunken binge...

The folks in Aruba don’t have a freaking clue on how to run anything more complex than a whore house gambling casino...

They could lift every building on the island, bulldoze it to a depth of 15 feet and they wouldn't find her.

The search starts at the waters edge and they are way too late.

Natalie's mother has just got to be on the edge right now. Poor woman. I really feel for her.

Van Der Sloot claimed several times that Natalie wanted to go see the sharks.

I've always thought that was an extremely bizarre thing to say.

i watched greta last night - some shocking new details emerged - nobody ever did a thorough search of vandersloot’s house & property - nobody luminalled (sp?) the kalpoe car - nobody on the beach was questioned - and on & on - i always thought that the aruban authorities just wanted the whole thing to go away, but this total lack of thoroughness is even more than i thought - there’s another person now heading the whole investigation (karen something is out), so maybe that’s why they’re belatedly doing what they should have done two years ago

It was really an accident. They were drugging girls and ... She just had a bad reaction to the drugs. She has probably been fed to the sharks long ago. Van der Sloot’s father is a Justice Ministry official, so nothing will be done.

" .. and have wondered why nothing more was ever heard about that connection."

You and a gazillion other people.

I suspect it is 911 syndrome ... "That's enough of that, we won't hear of it ... The American people have had enough ... roll the 'stroll around Aruba looking like we're looking' .. tape(s).
