Tenet's Foul Shot
IBD Editorials ^ | 29 April 2007 | Staff

War on Terror: Whatever ex-CIA chief George Tenet's book says he meant by "slam dunk" regarding pre-Iraq War intelligence, there always were lots of good reasons to oust Saddam Hussein — and to finish the job today.

In the nearly 550 pages of Tenet's "At the Center of the Storm," there's no shortage of bitter complaints from the intelligence chief on whose watch 9/11 took place. He says the Washington Post's Bob Woodward distorted and took out of context the phrase that has come to define Tenet.

While conceding the CIA believed that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction before the 2003 U.S. invasion, Tenet says that wasn't what he was referring to by "slam dunk." No, he was talking about putting "a better case together for a public case," he writes.

Despite the media fuss, what he really meant isn't important.

So perhaps he can explain to us why all the data developed during the Clinton years to justify bombing Iraq in the middle of Clinton’s Impeachment suddenly became faulty when a Republican took the White House in 2001?

But of Course the Democrats, and their slavish lap dogs in the so called “News Media” will never discuss that angle on this story so for the vast bulk of the American people, it never happened.

It’s a double whammy ... the dog wagging and the need to contain Saddam have become so confused in the liberal mind that the entire issue is off limits to reason and bush derangement syndrome takes over.

Tenet’s out of CIA service, but he’s still in CYA mode.

Woolsey found the CIA unmanageable, and we have seen lots of problems. What I want to know is whether it is now better and is our intel about Iran and NK any good.

All the signs are that the CIA is far more interested in working for its own bureaucratic enlargement than for the administration or the country.

There was a short period after Tenet was retired with honors when Bush seemed interested in doing a repair job, but from all outward signs the effort failed almost completely.

As for the State Department and the FBI, there hasn’t been any effort at all to fix them.

To his credit, Bush did mostly fix the UN contingent, one of the few places where he put his own personal stamp on his administration.

It is refusal of the permanent bureaucracy to take direction from civilian elected leadership. As they are represented by government employee unions which support Dems, the Dems take their sides.

A typical Bill Clinton toady. The President has had a weakness for keeping Clinton back stabbers on the payroll.

I caught the tail end of an interview with Bill Kristol on FOX. He said of Tenant’s book, “... sounds more like a baby whining to me ...”

I nearly fell over !!

Tenet is the poster boy for the Peter Principle. When I see his ilk,all I can do is shake my head. With men such as him in charge of such an important position,I realize America needs a serious reality check. What was w thinking??!!

It was the “new tone”.

Bush foolishly believed that dedicated govt workers were just that .. dedicated to America.

THEY’RE NOT! THEY’RE DEMOCRATS WHO WANT TO DESTROY BUSH, AND THEY DON’T CARE IF THEY TAKE THE WHOLE COUNTRY DOWN WITH HIM.

You are so right. What is very scary is how many people are on board with this crap.If sKerry came that close to the highest office in the country,we need to be afraid! If any of the demonrats gets in,we are doomed. That goes with some of the Republican candidates as well. The best America has to offer will never run,as they care to much to be drug through the mud.The ones,I believe, that are running, most have no shame.I see it in local politics as well.I would place my family and their lives before any decision I make.Back room deals and such is the same as dealing with the devil. To”compromise”is the same as selling out.Our leaders believe their job is to enact as many new laws as possible.I think that is their way of justifying their pay.Sorry for the rant, but I am already fatigued of the two year runs for office,as I believe many are.

Tell me how you really feel!!I agree he is a faggot of the worst kind.Funny how my spell checker underlines that word. After watching that self promoting piece of $h-T,I wonder how many more incompetents were CIA directors. It is obvious thanks to him,we are now aware why they were so inept. He would not even make a CEO in the worst company in the world. Why W kept him on befuddles me.You do not want an element of the enemy in your foxhole. The only thing I can reason he did,was to see what he knew about klintoon.Who knows! But he is a faggot!!In the Army,we referred to people like him as a maggot. That is to kind of a word.He is a poster boy for backstabber.

Actually, taking over the CIA after John Deutsch would probably make anybody look like a comparative genius.
