Posted on 04/29/2007 3:41:40 PM PDT by Captain Shamrock
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - A heavily traveled section of freeway that funnels traffic off the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge collapsed early Sunday after a gasoline tanker truck overturned and erupted into flames, authorities said.
Flames shot 200 feet in the air and the heat was intense enough to melt part of the freeway and cause the collapse, but the truck's driver walked away from the scene with second-degree burns. No other injuries were reported.
Someone needs to rub this in Rosie’s face.
Was Rosie O’Donnell driving on the freeway at the time and her excess mass caused it to collapse?
Rosie needs to get her money back for her Structural Engineering degree.
Thank you. Please e-mail her at ABC. This is exactly what I thought when I read saw that story on Fox News.
What’s with these tanker crashes under highway over passes. We just had one in our area. It closed the road for a month.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
I’m sure thie event will give the no-good-niks an idea of possibilities in the future. Down with terrorism!
The "government" (cue: neocon music and Dick Cheney evil laugh track) set up this accident up as to proof Rosie was wrong and continue the 9/11 cover up.
O’Donut was the first person I thought of this morning when seeing this.
A few years ago a tank truck carrying gasoline crashed and burned near here. A friend who works for the county took me to look at the aftermath.
It happened on a level stretch of highway and the damage to the road and surrounding area were amazing. The tar was burned right out of the asphalt leaving a crust of semi fused gravel. Trees 200 feet away were scorched and dying.
It was either that or the fire! The only two things that could bring the freeway down.
She’s too busy rubbing something else on her face to comment...
FIRE MELTS STEEL: Somebody tell Rosie O'Donnell.
Um, you don't walk away from second degree burns, unless it's a TINY one.
Don’t call Rosie a manatee. It’s insulting to manatees.
This is the SECOND time in history that fire has melted steel.
It ios amazing the driver walked away. How did that happen?
Don’t you know anything George Bush did!!!!!!!!
Rosie knows as much about structural strength as she knows about chastity.
//seriously, you WILL see this on
wacko left-wing websites
Don’t you know anything George Bush did it!!!!!!!!
Lol! I saw this on Fox and thought of Rosie.
I still wanna know how Rosie thinks all those steel beams get produced in the first place.
Second-degree burns aren’t too bad. It’s the type of burn you’d get from accidentally grabbing a curling iron (which I once did when I blindly reached behind me for the Windex that was on the bathroom counter when I was cleaning a mirror when I was very young). Can definitely walk away with 2nd-degree. It’s third-degree that’ll leave you near-death.
“Actually, I would say the steel was deformed into losing its ability to carry the weight of the freeway not melted like a steel smelter. However, the pictures tell the story of how an intensive gas fire can collapse a steel supported structure like a freeway bridge...or a skyscraper!”
Actually, secret agents were seen at this site only yesterday in anticipation of this crash. They must have planted explosives which were used to bring down the overpass. The crash and resulting fire was only a cover.
Somebody check that driver—I wonder what “Company” he worked for? This was obviously a distraction from Bush’s failed Iraq policies. /sarc
Oh my, lets make a list.
The traffic in this area is some of the worst in the state. It will be very bad come Monday.
Hey ....Rotten Rosie.... are you catching a clue here??
A section of highway lies burned and crumbled in
Emeryville, Calif., after a tanker carrying gasoline
exploded on Sunday, April 29, 2007. In the resulting
blaze, a section of freeway that funnels traffic onto
the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge collapsed.

I do wonder about these accidents and the ability of Al Quaeda to learn how a critical fire at a critical point in the transportation system can crate havoc.
Here in Atlanta we had a series of bridge jumpers (though, not lately) who were able to back up traffic for miles. Any terrorist watching that would have a perfect idea of how a low manpower force could concentrate casualties.
Same thing happened just north of the Bronx some years back, where the interestate comes down into the Major Deegan expressway. A tanker crashed and burned avoiding some idiot that cut him off. It took almost a year before the overpass was restored.
We are a free society. That creates more risk than a strictly controlled society.
If they could attack us and thought it was the best course of action they would. Right now it serves their purpose to not attach us at home and let the dems sow discord. If they were to attach us here then our resolve would be united as it should already be. Evidently 3000 weren’t enough for some Americans to realize what we face.
not to mention, the lightweight bar joists at the WTC were a LOT flimsier than a highway bridge girder built to handle San Francisco earthquakes
Is there a pattern to these accidents?
The phenomenon is an enginering usage of the word creep.
Creep..... A slow flow of metal when under high temperature or great pressure. Yahoo dictionary.
For the record
THAT was my first thought, too.
A little bit of Monica in my life
A little bit of Erica by my side
A little bit of Rita’s all I need
A little bit of Tina’s what I see
A little bit of Sandra in the sun
A little bit of Mary all night long
A little bit of Jessica here I am
Yeah, I goofed. Massive 2nd degree burns can put you in the hospital, but you can walk around (albeit in some real pain) with decent 2nd degree burns. I was thinking 3rd degree...
Yikes. This could be a huge problem for San Francisco.
Twenty years ago, I lived in Emeryville, on a nice peninsula that goes out into the bay just north of the bridge. When I moved there in '85, I could run into The City for lunch, as it took 12 minutes to cross the Bay Bridge. In the three years I lived there, San Fran traffic reached permanent gridlock status and the trip took 1-1/2 hours at the same time of day.
THIS wreck will likely tie up everything for miles around until 2044.
“a gasoline tanker truck explosion inside one of the three tunnels in the hills above Oakland”
It’s the Caldecott Tunnel and the scorch marks are still visible all the way through as a grim reminder.
We heard this on the radio this afternoon and my husband’s first comment was Rosie will say terrorists did this because she doesn’t belive fuel can melt steel...
