The flap over the firing of eight federal prosecutors last year may be the Democrats' best chance to get White House political adviser Karl Rove out of their way before the 2008 elections.

"He beats Democrats, and they hate it. He outthinks them, outflanks them and outworks them," said Mr. Barton, who once was a client of Mr. Rove's direct-mail company back in Texas during the 1980s. Democrats beg to differ. In their view, Mr. Rove succeeded in the 2000, 2002 and 2004 elections by dirty tricks along with smart tactics, and has continued to ignore ethics, and even sometimes the law, by overpoliticizing the federal government under President Bush. Rep. Rahm Emanuel, in a speech last week, described how Mr. Rove talked in 2000 of re-creating "a 35-year era of Republican dominance, dominance that did not end until the election of Franklin Delano Roosevelt." "Without a trace of reserve, George Bush and Karl Rove set out to re-create an earlier era of one-party rule, and they pursued their goal by inverting, in my view, the very purpose of government," said Mr. Emanuel, Illinois Democrat, a former top adviser to President Clinton who is now the fourth-highest ranking House Democrat. Mr. Rove has in fact done much to lay the groundwork for long-term Republican domination, and setbacks in the 2006 midterm election have not deterred him from planning to recapture Congress in 2008. A 28-page memo issued by Mr. Rove's office of political affairs on Jan. 26 declared that the Democratic victory last fall was "more about rejecting Republican conduct than about supporting Democrat ideology." "Democrats have a precarious hold on power," said the document, which identified Republicans in Congress who need to be defended in 2008, and Democrats who are vulnerable.

P.S. Somebody should put up the Donald Sutherland picture—it’s a total classic. Makes me laugh every time I see it.
Is this news? The traitors have been trying to do so for the last 6 years.
After the “JOB” Mr. Rove (and Dubya) did for the Republicans in 2006, if I was a democRAT, I would favor legislation PREVENTING Rove’s departure.
Re: your tagline. July 7th of this year will be Robert Heinlein’s 100th birthday.
my exact thoughts.
my exact thoughts.
The dimwits have had Rove in their gunsights for 7 or 8 years now. If they ever learn to turn the gun around, they might get off a shot or two at him, but for now they just keep shooting themselves in their own head! What a bunch of dumba$$e$ they are!
He should quit, and go work for Fred.
Thar would really driven’em nuts.
Not that they have far to go.
Isn’t this silly? Rove is little danger to them as a White House advisor. The real danger he poses is if he leaves his job and joins up with a presidential campaign as an advisor.
The Dims just have a cow when someone beats them at their own game.
just what I thought, getting him out of the white house does nothing to stop his contribution to the GOP.
It’s just typical Leftist theatrics so that they can claim a feel good but inconsequential ‘victory’.
While that is a Dem nightmare, I have to wonder about Rove burning out at this point, and therefore question if he can continue to be effective.
Lets not forget what happened last fall.
Yea, Rove has done a fantasic job lately.
1) Lost the 2006 election or at least helped in the sinking of the ship.
2) Helped maintian one of the worse PR operations in the history of the American politics. Bush’s numbers should not even be close to what they are now, not even close.
Anyone want to add to that??????
“This guy freaks them out—I LOVE IT!!! Go get ‘em, Karl!”
The funny thing is, he’s one of their best allies.
