Elizabeth May's bizarre speech
National Post: lead Editorial

On Sunday, Elizabeth May, the leader of the Green Party of Canada, returned to London, Ont., where she lost a byelection five months ago. Although Ms. May was not on the campaign trail, she was preaching the Greens' environmental catechism, this time from the pulpit of a local United Church.
Her odd sermon should concern not only Green party members who hope to take the party into the political mainstream, but also Liberal leader Stephane Dion, who recently struck a controversial political alliance with Ms. May -- and has pledged not to run a Liberal candidate in the Central Nova riding where she plans to challenge Foreign Affairs Minister Peter MacKay.
Ms. May's teary-eyed homily on global warming no doubt moved many in the audience. She told the United Church congregation that "Through the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, we can meet this moral obligation."
But other parts of her speech were entirely bizarre, conjuring up theories that call into question not only her credibility as the leader of the Greens, but also Mr. Dion's judgment.
In referring to Evangelical Christians, Ms. May stated that some "are waiting for the end [of ] time in glee ? and they unfortunately include President [George W.] Bush." Ms. May also described Stephen Harper's plan to deal with global warming as "worse than Neville Chamberlain's appeasement of the Nazis."
That's quite impressive: In one speech, Ms. May not only managed to insult Canada's Christians, but also the President of the United States and the memory of those who died at the hands of the Nazis.
And to think this is a woman campaigning to be admitted into the party leaders' debates when election time comes.
At Sunday's event in London, Glen Pearson, the local Liberal MP, escorted Ms. May to the pulpit and described her as a "prophet." We wonder if Mr. Dion shares that view. In any case, we'd like to offer our own prophecy for the rest of 2007: Ms. May will continue to make her party --and, by extension, the Liberals with whom she is now formally allied--look ridiculous.

May defends 'Nazi' comment
Tories 'appease' climate

OTTAWA - Elizabeth May, the federal Green party leader, is standing by her comment over the weekend that condemned Stephen Harper's stance on climate change by comparing it to "a grievance worse than Neville Chamberlain's appeasement of the Nazis."
Ms. May added yesterday that acting on the environment is a "moral" issue and that the Prime Minister is playing politics rather than addressing Canada's obligations under the Kyoto accord.
The long-time environmentalist, who said she was having "a lousy week" because of the federal government's weak action plan on the environment, defended the comments she made on the weekend to a church congregation in London.
She said her Chamberlain- Nazi remark originated with British author George Monbiot and that she was quoting comments he made during an appearance with Canadian environmentalist David Suzuki in Toronto on the weekend.
Ms. May said the comments by Mr. Monbiot, who has been named by the London Independent newspaper as one of the 40 international prophets of the 21st century, are another indicator of the damage the Conservatives are doing to Canada's international reputation.
Ms. May delivered what she called an "environmental sermon" to the Wesley Knox United Church in Wortley Village on Sunday, saying the government is threatening mankind by failing to take action to remedy global warming.
"We have a moral obligation to our Lord and Father to ensure we don't destroy the creation that was given to us.
"Through the power of our Lord and Jesus Christ, we can meet this moral obligation," she said.
A spokesman for the Conservative government said Ms. May should retract her comparison with Chamberlain and the Nazis and apologize.
Ms. May and Mr. Dion recently announced a deal between their parties not to run candidates against each other in their respective ridings. Ms. May is running against Foreign Affairs Minister Peter MacKay in the Nova Scotia riding of Central Nova, rather than contesting a London riding as she did in a fall byelection.
Liberal MP Glen Pearson invited Ms. May, an Anglican minister- in-training, to speak to his church after defeating her in the byelection in the London-North- Centre riding.
He likened the Green party leader to an Old Testament prophet at the conclusion of her speech: "[Ms. May] is one such prophet."
However, Mr. Pearson said yesterday that he had not been comfortable with Ms. May's Nazis analogy and he believed it perhaps crossed the line for proper discourse in a church.
"Canadians need to get more serious about it, but the whole link to the Nazis over that went beyond the pale, for me. You have to be careful there. We have all messed up on the environment, right?" Mr. Pearson said.
"I just didn't think that analogy was probably the best one that could have been used."
Ms. May was unapologetic yesterday, accusing John Baird, the Environment Minister, of being "factually wrong" in his negative comments about the Clinton- Gore administration's record on the environment.
Mr. Baird made those comments in response to criticisms from Al Gore, the former U.S. vice-president.

We’ll take her back, if you guys take Stabenow back.
Irrationalists such as the confused Lizzy May are perfectly capable of holding contradictory views.
After all, so-called “contradictions” are merely artifacts of a logic system devised by capitalistic earth-destroying patriarchal oppressors.
And the damage continues via, besides their own on-going activism, the young people they've 'educated' and/or otherwise influenced.
Pierre Elliot Trudeau, the gift that just keeps on giving...
And just what are this moonbat's credentials? And how valid a source is the London Independent? If it's anything like the indies here in the U.S., well, need I say more?
Haha! She’s nuttier than a fruitcake, or...fruitier than a nutcake...I don’t know dessert. Anyway...no way in HELL that she wins MacKay’s riding. That’s just a daydream.
Stay safe in the old world.
That's where all the Commies went when the wall fell.
No, Elizabeth May is a far-left moonbat, therefore she is immune to MSM anti-religious zealotry. They know she was only making believe to try and fool the “idiot religious”.
