Former New York Mayor and Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani today told a Hispanic group that the immigration crisis will be solved by securing the U.S. border and accounting for all illegal aliens, and then weeding out criminals and enrolling the remaining aliens in a process of "Americanization."
-snip-
Mr. Giuliani said border security is his first priority, because of the terrorism threat.
After that, he said, all illegal aliens should "come forward," and "if they are working and complying with the law, and they are making a contribution, let's sign them up, let's register them, let's collect their taxes and let's let them pay their fair share."
The crowd of about 250 people in the Four Seasons Hotel ballroom applauded. Mr. Giuliani then quickly added that his plan is not amnesty. He said that illegal aliens already in the U.S., of which there are an estimated 12 million, should pay penalties, back taxes, and should be moved "to the back of the line," behind other immigrants who have already applied for citizenship.

Mr. Giuliani then quickly added that his plan is not amnesty. Yeah, sure, Rudy. They get to stay here. That's amnesty.

He also said that what President Bush and others have called a "path to citizenship" should include a demonstration of English-speaking skills and an understanding of "the basic ideas of America." "If they do that, then those people should become citizens, because we've reestablished in this whole process now a sense of assimilation and Americanization," Mr. Giuliani said. Ummm! What part of that do you not like?

Mr. Giuliani then quickly added that his plan is not amnesty. It's rilly, rilly not ... honest.

and "if they are ... complying with the law" There's a fly in that ointment. Had they complied with the law, they wouldn't be here in the first place.
To: areafiftyone
Ummm! What part of that do you not like? The part that allows them to stay here when they broke the law to come here in the first place. If you reward illegal behavior, you get more of it.

A NO vote for Giuliani. The Republicans can get a real conservative out there to take it to the liberals.
I won’t be voting for him. There are to many things that I’m against that he’s for and vice versa.

You really think this country will deport over 12 million of them? GET REAL! It will never happen and you know it. Get the criminals out of here get the ones that are here and make them pay taxes - learn English, become Americanized and eventually become citizens. There is NO WAY we are going to get rid of them.

The fact that he’s saying that we should reward people who broke the law by coming here illegally.
And IIRC, didn’t he call for a “virtual fence”? If so, how is that border “security”?

"if they are working and complying with the law, and they are making a contribution, let's sign them up, let's register them, let's collect their taxes and let's let them pay their fair share." And if they're not working or are on welfare or are contributing less than the are taking we can immediately round them up and deport them?
To: Ultra Sonic 007
Who said a virtual fence? He meant more technology we can in building a fence and closing the border. He didn’t say a virtual fence.

You really think this country will deport over 12 million of them? GET REAL! It will never happen and you know it. Make them want to self-deport.
Oh, that's right, Rudy fought for them to get welfare. And to keep NYC a sanctuary city for them.
No wonder its going to be a lot more difficult to get them out now. So Rudy, having helped cause the problem, needs to get out of the way for someone willing to do something about it.

REpublicans are stuck on stupid with this issue.
ESPECIALLY THE RINOS like Rudy.
We can have a guest worker program. Just do not include the illegals.
Do not have a convertable Guest worker (Z) Visa, the same way the I-94w is a NON CONVERTABLE STATUS.
I love how AMNESTY advocates keep calling AMNESTY not really AMNESTY.
(ie: This birds swims like a duck, quacks like a duck, flys like a duck, looks like a duck and behaves like a duck but it is really a Long Horn Steer.)
