Umm, Mr. Clinton* won election in 1992...what else did the author misstate?

* Etiquette dictates that former US Presidents be referred to as "Mr." or "The Honorable" - somehow "Mr." seems more appropriate...;)

I’m guessing that it’s just poorly written. “In 1994, Clinton credited Brown...” might have been the intended meaning.

Well, yes, but only because I and others voted for Ross Perot and gave Ol' Slick "The Gift." Slick was elected by what? Less than 1/2 of the 1/2 who voted? A 23% president...That's why you could ask folks and find that 3 of 4 did NOT vote for him.....
