Basheva, if I am not mistaken you are a Gentile in the eyes of Mormons. :)

Again... Absolutely amazing.

You will speak on behalf of Mormons, telling Basheva what we think of him.

The arrogance of that attitude is astonishing.

What authority does Gomes have? Why does *he* get to define 'cult', and say definitively how many books are in the Bible (and which books they are) and what are the *central* doctrines of the Christian faith?

He has no authority; the Biblical canon was established by God. He's simply reading that established law and applying it. The LDS church teaches things that are clearly contrary to the Bible and the basic tenets of Christianity outlined in the same said document. That's the whole thrust of the article.

If I am wrong, let me know.

Do Mormons not consider all non mormons, Gentiles?

If Romney gets the GOP nod, he has my vote despite my past unpleasant experiences with the LDS church

Mine too. Utah once had a Jewish governor, Simon Bamberger. Mormons voted for a Jew with whom they shared political views. But they didn't say that the Jewish governor was a fellow Mormon. The same principle applies here.

If Mitt wants to torpedo his chances, all he has to do is come out and say "Mormonism is Christian."

However, virtually all Jewish denominations claim that when a Jew becomes a Christian, he ceases to be Jewish.

The trouble with that is "Jewish" means two different but related things. A) A practitioner of Judaism; a follower of Jewish faith and law; and/or B) A direct descendant of the Tribe of Judah and the remnant Tribes of Israel.

There are plenty of non-religious, secular Jews.

I really don’t care what the Mormons think of me - how they classify me, and I don’t care what the “leaders” of Jewish groups (Reform, Conservative, Orthodox) think of Jews for Jesus - or anything else of that nonsense.

If someone wants to call himself a Jew for Jesus - so be it. Doesn’t bother me.

The only thing that concerns me is my faith and the survival of the Judeo-Christian civilization. It would concern me if any of these other groups were trying to interfere in my faith -but they aren’t.

I am free to drive to my Temple any time I want - sing the songs I want to, read the prayers I want to, celebrate holidays I want to.

What someone else thinks of it doesn’t bother me.

What does bother me is if that person is a good and decent member of society.

I think faith should be a uniter not a divider.

Even as a Jew, I think Christ would want it that way.

Including Moses?

Indeed. IIRC, Moses only saw the glory of God, but did not gaze upon the Father's face directly. Moses kind of had this shimmer about him afterwards from even that indirect encounter.

I have been LDS all my life, and I can tell you that many of the doctrines the author claims are "what Mormons believe" are not what I have been taught, nor are they what I believe. What they are are selected quotes from individual, usually early, Church leaders, frequently taken out of context.

What specifically is innacurate about the author's representation of Mormon doctrine, or for that matter, what anyone has said here so far about Mormon doctrine?

Cordially,

the Biblical canon was established by God.

Says who? You? What authority do you have?

If you deny that Gomes has authority, and you deny that you have authority, then by what authority do you condemn Mormonism?

Convert from Mormonism to Christianity and see how quickly the LDS and everyone you knew in the LDS ostracizes you. It is as bad as converting from Judaism, and almost as bad as converting from Islam. I’ve dealt with people who have been in each situation, and the common thread is that they are all noew considered as dead by their former religion.

So, if you would rather argue amongst yourselves who is or who isn’t this or that.....be my guest.

Talk to me again when next Islam strikes.

I agree with your view. If Mormons want to call themselves Christians so what? I think most if not all followers of Christ can do so.

But they get all bent out of shape if you call the polygamists in Utah, Mormons. Yet they are followers of Joseph Smith and believe in the Book of Mormon. But don’t you dare call them fundamentalist Mormons!

For me, what makes Romney unsuitable as a candidate is not his Mormonism, but his flip-flops on major issues.

Then you are not really interested in the discussion here. You are more interested in what impacts you personally. That is valid. We all are interested in things that affect us personally.

The only thing that concerns me is my faith and the survival of the Judeo-Christian civilization.

So you wouldn't mind if Islamic Jihadists claimed to be Jewish because they acknowledge Abraham, Moses, David and Solomon as prophets and men of God. "Allow us to run your country because we are Jews like you... so lets all bow to Mecca." Do you see the absurdity in this?

If I am wrong, let me know.

Well, you're partly right.

Bible Dictionary: Gentile

The word Gentiles means the nations, and eventually came to be used to mean all those not of the house of Israel. It is first used in Genesis with reference to the descendants of Japheth (Gen. 10: 2-5). As used throughout the scriptures it has a dual meaning, sometimes to designate peoples of non-Israelite lineage, and other times to designate nations that are without the gospel, even though there may be some Israelite blood therein. This latter usage is especially characteristic of the word as used in the Book of Mormon.

It's just exasperating when non-Mormons see themselves as authorities on the subject, especially when our beliefs and teachings are freely available online for anyone to see for themselves.

I didn't mean to overreact.

That's the thing. Joseph Smith's and Brigham Young's teachings are freely available for anyone to read. And they both taught that there are many gods in addition to the God of the Bible. Furthermore, they taught the doctrines outlined in Pastore's article. That alone classifies Mormonism as a religion that is outside of Christianity.

*****So you wouldn’t mind if Islamic Jihadists claimed to be Jewish because they acknowledge Abraham, Moses, David and Solomon as prophets and men of God. “Allow us to run your country because we are Jews like you... so lets all bow to Mecca.” Do you see the absurdity in this?****

I don’t care what thet Jidhadists call themselves as long as they don’t kill my country.

Not absurd at all. Running my country as a religious police state is not something I want from ANY religious group no matter what they call themselves.

Islam wants me (and you) dead. That’s quite different from proclaiming one is a Christian or a Jew.

****Then you are not really interested in the discussion here. You are more interested in what impacts you personally. That is valid. We all are interested in things that affect us personally.****

This is not at all ONLY personal - it’s a threat to our culture and civilization. If we are not united to meet it we shall surely die together.

And yes, if America as we know it doesn’t survive it impacts me personally, generally and generationally.

Well, my friends, I’ll leave you to divide yourselves - those of you who wish to do that - Islam will be happy.
