Emergency crews were scrambling to shut down a broken water main Wednesday morning causing a massive sinkhole near University Bridge in Seattle that swallowed a minivan and a sedan and gushed water and mud for hours into Portage Bay.
One car landed on a gas pipeline and both were on top of the broken main, making the accident more difficult control, authorities said. They added it might take up to 30 hours before the water system is back to normal.
