Conspiracy: Unless the feds had something to do with it, the theory held by Rosie and others that the Twin Towers were brought down by the Bush administration just crashed and burned on a California freeway.
In recent discussions on the jaundiced "View" and her Web site, conspiracy theorist Rosie O'Donnell opined that the 9/11 collapse of the Twin Towers, as well as 7 World Trade Center, marked "the first time in history that fire has ever melted steel." This, she said, is "physically impossible."
Well, not exactly. Fire only has to weaken a structure already weakened by, say, a fully fueled passenger aircraft flying into it, sufficiently so that the weight of the structure brings it down.
Rosie as structural engineer. We wonder what Rosie's reaction was Sunday, when a gasoline truck exploded in flames beneath an elevated section of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge known as the MacArthur Maze, a network of ramps and interchanges that carries motorists to a number of freeways in the area.

I doubt Rosie will notice anything unusual about the collapse of the overpass. Bridges and overpasses collapse under her weight all the time.

Unfortunately, Rosie isn’t the only one who believes that 9/11 could have been a government conspiracy. Only a crazy person would believe such a thing, but I’ve read articles on this subject that are absolutely amazing.

I have spent a lot of time trying to give people a basic understanding of what happens when fire heats up steel. Most are not willing to believe it, as they just want to say “Bush blew up the WTC!”.
actually Rosie is claiming that the fires in WT7 didn’t reach the melting point, so they couldn’t have brought the building down (in her mind).
She claims the building fell into it’s “own footprint” (not exactly true).
That the concrete became “dust” (some of it did, some of it didn’t), and that it had to be brought down by controlled demolition.
She doesn’t claim to know “who” demolished the building but urges people to find out for themselves who had offices in the building.
This, of course, is supposed to lead people onto the path of Bush.
She is upset with O’Reilly for mischaracterizing her statements as claiming Bush brought down WT7.
However it is a reasonable assumption to make concerning the links provided at her website.
It also means that anyone who thinks 9/11 was all about destroying records held in WT7, must think that the planes crashing into the north and south tower were part of that “master plan” as well.
Afterall....who is going to rig a building to blow and then sit around and wait for planes, by chance, to fly into buildings?
So it is reasonable to assume that these Saudi “terrorists” were just part of some strange plan to destroy records being held in offices in WT7.
Someone should also as Rosie why the building code required the Twin Towers and other hi rises steel to be insulated from fire … you don’t require something to be protected from fire if it not affect by fire...
It was the spray on foam fire insulation that got striped from the steel on impact on the aircraft exposing the bare steel to the fire
I could be wrong on this last part but I believe in fact a code change during construction the lower part and an asbestos rap use for years in steel hi rises’s… but because of environment law changes they switch on the upper part to a spray on foam fire insulation…
I have seen what fire does to structural steel in only a short time.
A structure in a refinery where I worked caught fire, and although the fire department was able to respond and get the fire out before major damage was done, we had quite a lot of rebuilding to do.
One of the key things was that the structural steel twisted, almost corkscrew; we brought in a large crane to keep the tower upright while piece by piece we went in and replaced the steel beams.
So, while the structure didn’t collapse in the short time it was on fire, the steel was badly distorted by the heat.
