California Population Nears 38 Million, L.A. Tops 4 Million(How many millions are illegals?)
SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE ^ | May 1, 2007 | By Steve Lawrence

SACRAMENTO – California's population is closing in on 38 million and its biggest city now has more than 4 million people, but the state's growth rate has slowed since the start of the decade, state officials said Tuesday. The Department of Finance's demographics unit said California had nearly 37.7 million residents as of on Jan. 1, up by about 470,000 since the start of 2006. One of every eight Americans now lives in the state.

Los Angeles, the nation's second largest city, added more than 37,000 residents in 2006, giving it a population of just more than 4 million. New York City has more than 8 million people, according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau figures. But California's growth rate has been slowing since the start of the decade, when its population grew by nearly 2 percent. Last year, the state's population grew by almost 1.3 percent, senior demographer Linda Gage said.

She said stable birth and death rates, a slowdown in foreign immigration and a net loss of population to other parts of the country contributed to the drop-off.

“While we get many, many people who come here from other states, the balance is a little bit negative,” she added.

Latest statistic is that 25% of all illegals are in California...and that is approximately 3 to 4 million....a travesty without measure.

We would all do well to remember the facts presented last night by Robert Rector of Heritage: 12 to 20 million illegal aliens in this country. What is the cost of amnesty? The fiscal cost of amnesty for illegal aliens in the country?

ROBERT RECTOR, HERITAGE FOUNDATION: Illegal aliens cost a lot at the present time, but if you give them amnesty, one effect is that they will all have access to Social Security, Medicare, this program called Supplemental Security Income, Medicaid when they retire, OK?

So the real impact of amnesty would be — let’s say you have 12 million people. You give them amnesty. The impact of that, the net requirement cost alone would be negative $2.5 to $3 trillion. Negative $2.5 to $3 trillion.

DOBBS: $2.5 to $3 million?

RECTOR: Yes. And that’s with 12 million. You’re taking 10 million people and putting them into Social Security. That is one of the biggest budget impacts — that is the single budget — biggest budget impact I’ve seen in a quarter of a century. It’s fantastically expensive, and it is fantastically irresponsible for Congress to be contemplating that, and they don’t have a clue in the world, they don’t care what it will cost. RECTOR: You know what? If you look at low-skill immigrants, OK, which most illegals are, in fact, in every stage of their life cycle, they take more in benefits than they pay in, in taxes.

Each — each low-skilled immigrant — and illegals are predominantly low-skilled immigrants — that comes across to the United States, if they bring a family with them, the net cost that they impose on the taxpayers, benefits received minus taxes, is over $1 million over their lifetimes. It’s fantastically expensive.

LA city has more of a population then most states yet senators from tiny states like VT can pass laws against us.

This is what I hate about such a huge government.

LA is one of the sole reasons why California is blue durning elections. It’s also the worst symbol of liberalism there is.

Wow, thanks for the info. I thought it would be a big number, but not that big.

The ‘progressive’ tax system we have does cater to them. They get a lot their money back, and giving them the benefit would (I guess) cost quite a bit.

How many are illegal?

I heard there are about 120 illegals in California. Sorry I just couldn’t resist being stupid. I just felt like being dumb.

You are right, they sure do get $ back, Rick. These are some figures about ‘the earned income credit’ refunds to aliens that I recently found.

Let’s not forget that illegals get more back in earned income credit using a Tax Identification Number than those that pay in using a SS #. And don’t forget that Mexican Totalization agreement pushed by this administration that will give illegal aliens full benefits after working only 18 month instead of the 10 years you and I must have to qualify.

http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscalfindings.html

Treasury Department Report. The results of our study are also buttressed by an analysis of illegal alien tax returns done by the Inspector General’s Office of the Department of Treasury in 2004.35 That study found that 55 percent of illegal aliens who filed income tax returns using tax identification numbers had no federal income tax liability. While higher than the 45 percent estimated in this study, it must be remembered that this figure was only for those who filed tax returns using a tax identification number. These are all individuals who expected refunds, otherwise they would not have gone to the trouble of getting tax identification numbers and filing a return. But like our estimates, the Inspector General’s report indicates that roughly half of illegals have no tax liability, reflecting their very low incomes and large number of dependents.

The number of ITINs issued in the last few years has increased dramatically, climbing from 1.1 million in 2001 to 1.5 million in 2002—a one-year increase of about 36 percent. Normally, ITINs would be used to file a Form 1040NR—U.S. Nonresident Alien Income Tax Return. However, many ITINs are used to file Forms 1040, which creates challenges for tax administration. Our analysis of Forms 1040 filed in Tax Year 2001 with ITINs found that approximately 530,000 Forms 1040 were filed with ITINs as the primary number by aliens who resided in the U.S., but who were not authorized to work and, in general, to reside in the U.S.

* These returns reported adjusted gross income of $10.7 billion. After tax deductions and credits, these tax returns reported a total liability of $184 million. * Over half of the tax returns reported no tax liability, and $522 million in tax refunds were claimed on these returns.

BECK: This is insanity. You know, I just saw a number — and tell me if this number is right, if you even have it — I just saw a number on, in 2004, what we paid illegal aliens in tax refunds, 2004. Do you know this number?

CAMAROTA: Yes, I believe — the figure I`ve heard is about $10 billion. That`s based on estimates that the Treasury Department has done itself, $10 billion they paid back to illegal aliens.

BECK: That is insane. We`re paying them $10 billion, and we can`t arrest them, we can`t even find them, we don`t even know — $10 billion? And now we`re giving them Social Security, one that we don`t need another country to sabotage for us. We`re doing it ourselves. The whole thing is going to collapse.

CAMAROTA: Yes, and what`s worse than that is, that the IRS issues them tax I.D. numbers so that they can then file their income tax with their false Social Security numbers so that we can give them their $10 billion back.

BECK: OK, all right. So the last thing here — let me just role play here for a second. I`m an illegal alien. I have to now go to the government and prove to the government that I have a fake I.D., that I bought a fake Social Security card on the street in the black market, and then the government rewards me for that, right?

CAMAROTA: Yes, in effect, sure. Once you get legal status, then you apply for the credits that you earned while you were an illegal alien. And the way you do that is like you said: You show your false documents. You bring out your bogus tax returns, and so forth.

Judging by the way people here in L.A. drive like Tijuana taxis, I’d say half, including the one that cut in front of me this morning and then gave me the “bird”.

Considering 10 MILLION illegal aliens arrive just in the last year alone, I’d be willing to guess they added at least 50% of those to the California population.

Of course while that figure comes directly from Homeland Security, our government would still have us believe that there are only a total of 12 million.

What is baloney?

EagleUSA said: "Latest statistic is that 25% of all illegals are in California...and that is approximately 3 to 4 million....a travesty without measure."

Are you questioning the percentage, or the number? In 1996, the DHS estimated that 40% (2 million) of the 5 million illegal aliens resided in California. In 2000, it was estimated that 32% (2.2 million) of illegals were in California. In 2005, they estimated that 25% (2.8 million) of 11 million illegal aliens resided in California. 3 to 4 million as of 2007 sounds right on target.

What is your estimate? And what is the source?
