Guys lay off Byrd. The man is in his late 80s and hasn’t been feeling well. While I loathe his personal history, I respect his Senate service.

This video link should be E-mailed to everyone in West Virginia. They should be embarrassed to have an elected representative as feeble as this.

You’re kidding, aren’t you? What, in particular, has Sen Byrd done that deserves respect? Set the Guinness record for most self-serving, pork projects that include a plaque bearing his name?
With all due to respect to WV voters, I just don’t understand their long, long bout with Byrd flu.

The problem is that he and Ted and Nancy and J F-ing Kerry CAN run.
The one thing I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY wanted out of the Contract with America was the term limits. It would have totally screwed the lobbyists and liberals.

Byrd is a throwback from the 1800s. People like Henry Clay, Charles Sumter, etc. He’s really old school, which is why I have a teeny-bit of respect for him.
To: pabianice
Was he so far gone that he couldn’t even spell deranged?

I did my part to boot him ought of office. Unfortunately, West Virginia is very much beholden to unions and they were out in force during the last election.
Term limits or a basic IQ test for voters would be nice!

This is where you are wrong. His state keeps putting him back in office so let them reap the idiocy that hatches from that. They deserve this kind of representation in my books.

We need more than term limits to save this country but it’s a start. There has to be an increase in the number of honest and patriotic Americans who are willing to run for political office. We have had too many scumbags in office who screwed us over for far too long.

Byrd is a throwback from the 1800s. People like Henry Clay, Charles Sumter, etc.You don't mean Charles Sumner, do you?
If so, you've got it backwards. Byrd is more like Preston Brooks, the SC senator who beat the anti-slavery Sumner (literally, with his cane) on the Senate floor!

I keep thinking that if the average American can be drug/alcohol tested in their jobs then so should the members of Congress & the Senate. I am beginning to think that after a certain age or if the person acts strangely they out to be tested for dementia. I don’t want anyone whose drunk or drugged or demented making laws for me. Plus it would clean house. Of course this will never happen but IMO its a good idea.
