My problem with Mr. Romney is that his Mormon moral principles did not influence him ENOUGH as governor of Massachusetts. I wish that he were (in some ways) MORE Mormon.
We survived Unitarian presidents, and sham Christian presidents (e.g. the Clintons). We can survive a Mormon president.
By the way, why wasn’t this an issue when LDS-er Mo Udall ran against Carter in ‘76 (coming in 2nd)?

I agree. Romney should be opposed because of his political record, not his Mormonism.

Anyone who wouldn't vote for someone just because they are a Mormon is a loon.
And let me point out, I am a member of the 'religious right'.

I agree with your general sentiments regarding today’s Mormons.
However, please be aware that there is much more to the story of the early Mormons. It is interesting that of the hundreds of bizarre cults running around America at the time, only the Mormons provokes massive popular resistance.
While I’ve never been able to find a compilation of the number of Mormons directly killed by gentile mob action over several decades, it is likely that Mormons killed more gentiles than that in the single incident of Mountain Meadows.
BTW, most religions have highly unpleasant events in their history. What should be important is their behavior today. We should not, however, ignore the facts of history.

While stumping in Florida, a man in the audience stood up Misplaced modifier, unless the nameless man had a wooden leg. (I haven't done a full edit.)
That said, it's a good piece. Well-organized, useful information.
Along with many others, I don't care that Mr. Romney is Mormon. I care about his positions. I'll continue watching him during the campaign.

While I understand your frustration (I'm LDS too.), opposition is merely par for the course. I mean, in football, if you ask the Patriots to say something nice about their opponents in an upcoming game, you're not likely to get a whole lot of positive, uplifting comments. It's to be expected. "For there must need be opposition in all things," remember? So, it's going to happen regardless. The only choice we have and the only right that no one on this earth can take away from us is our ability to determine our reaction to opposition and/or circumstance. As Bruce R. McKonkie once said: "The dogs will nip at the heals of the camels but the caravan moves along."
Let's concentrate on supporting our candidate. It doesn't matter what opponents think. We have a great candidate so, let's help people see that, not that there are people who don't like him or his/our church. That's the best way to deal with this opposition.

No one knows for sure what happened at Mt Meadows; pure speculation.
“only the Mormons provokes massive popular resistance” - You forgot about the Catholics.

Excellent!
Most people fear the unknown. Ignorance is not always bliss.
If one doesn’t take the time to be educated about the things s/he fears, then s/he will debase and degrade it to everyone s/he knows.
Thanks for the comprehensive article!

“Sunday after Sunday, preachers, evangelists, reverends and ministers from all Christian denominations pound the pulpit with anti-Mormon rhetoric.”
That is a damn lie!
I have attended church all my life, the only church who was ever disparaged in any service I have ever attended was the Baptist church.
You are so misinformed its ridiculous.

So, I suppose anyone who doesn't support Romney is an anti-Mormon bigot?
That's interesting - sounds a lot like Al and Jessie.
Mormonism is considered an un-Christian cult
I happen to agree, but it is not a dangerous cult. I don't usually call it a cult because the term "cult" conjures up memories of Koresh and Jim Jones; something that I do not believe the LDS church is anything like. I generally agree with your characteristics of LDS members. They are usually sound Conservatives, family oriented, and upstanding Americans.
For what it is worth, I accepted Romneys explanation for what appeared to be a flip-flop on abortion.
If I don't vote for him it will have nothing to do with him being a LDS member. If he ends up with the nomination, I will vote for him.
Something I will not do with Rudy.
Cordially,
GE

put me down for #1, it’s just too weird. That said, I am not thinking of joining the LDS church, but choosing a candidate for President. Hillary purports to be a fellow Methodist, and I would not vote for her under ANY circumstances. Romney is far superior to all of the Democrat candidates, and most of the Republicans. I don’t know if he can beat Hillary in the general or not. The “Mormon issue” seems to be more important to the drive-by media than to the grass-roots Republican voters.
