In an interview with the daily newspaper Le Parisien on Friday, Ségolène Royal, the Socialist candidate, accused Nicolas Sarkozy of embracing "the same neoconservative ideology" as President George W. Bush......said Sarkozy, "She is not in a good mood this morning, it must be the polls," he said on Europe-1. "Since she feels the ground giving way beneath her feet, it's a classic phenomenon: She tenses up, she stiffens, she shows her true nature.".......
A poll Thursday by CSA gave Sarkozy 53 percent to Royal's 47 percent while Sofres indicated that Sarkozy, who has held a wide advantage in every poll for months, increased his lead to 54.5 percent, with Royal at 45.5 percent. Ipsos on Wednesday and Thursday placed the former interior minister at 54 percent and Royal at 46.....All three polls were conducted by telephone among pools of 1,000 to 1,400 people. The margin of error is estimated at three percentage points.

I wish!
The only thing I would ask the French Government to do is support the sanctions against Iran. Iran depends on French assistance. Without their help (Russians, too but, hey, who am I kidding?) nothing will be effective.
Sarkman’s policies will be to the left of the DemocRATic party in the US, so don’t call him a conservative. That said, the anti-US rhetoric will be toned down. Maggie Thatcher he ain’t - which is what the Frogs really need.
LOL.
fyi
I am not sure that the chance has not long past. But if it has not, I hope the French choose to save themselves.
They already do. Its the Rooskies that are holding back.
Not exactly true.
Democrats in the US embrace policies that are softer on crime, more intrusive and regulatory toward business and more conciliatory toward Islamic radicalism.
Sarkozy's policy goals lean toward stricter law enforcement, deregulation of business and opposition to Islamic radicalism.
He moves in a contrary policy direction to American Democrats.
Wow!
From a French perspective, that is a radical right-wing statement.
Imagine a US Presidential candidate saying: "We will eliminate the influence of the Sixties from American politics forever!"
“NeoCon” means Jewish.
Sarkozy has a mother of Greek Jewish descent.
I was wondering how long it would take Anti-Semitism to raise its head in this race. It’s a little later than I expected.
Nevertheless, don’t underestimate the willingness of the French to be Anti-Semitic. I’m sure Sarkozy is already demonized as a monkey-pig in the Islamic Banlieus.
Good luck with all that, France. Don’t expect any help from us ever again.
Yep, that's the codeword worldwide now. A European "neocon" is someone on the political right who either doesn't despise Israel/Jews (a rare occurrence) or who actually has Jewish blood.
You read French? I do. You read the French newspapers? I do. He isn’t going to move French policy that much.
Right direction, but he won’t have the votes to go as far as we might like.
Since you can parlez, you might google up Sarkman’s web site and read up. Also, remember, that Sarkozy is part of Chirac’s party. You wouldn’t call him a right winger by American standards. I wouldn’t in any event.
Presidential power under the 5th Republic is such that it has more influence on policy than in other democratic systems, BUT Sarko will still need votes in the Senate and National Assembly. That’s where the fur will fly in my opinion. Look for national strikes and violence. My 2 cents. Good luck to France. It will need it. Slowing down the pace of reform will prolong the pain and delay the benefits.
