I always thought the reason abu Ghraib prison got so much media attention was to assure that the enemy was properly inspired to fight our coalition forces in Iraq. No doubt some “insurgents” picked up weapons to avenge the actions of some of the jailers, and that’s why the defendants’ lawyers got Seymour Hersh involved. Remember the story had already broken. The army made it known. But the lawyers took the pictures their clients had and made sure they got into the hands of Seymour Hersh, who’d cut his teeth as a journalist by exposing the My Lai massacre. Since then, he’s been an inveterate attacker of the military, but his credibility is high enough to assure that his take will play in the credulous MSM. The rest is history. Thus did a few soldiers who’d broken the rules and laws, with the help of their lawyers, manage to provide al Qaeda and the “insurgents” a great recruiting tool and provided yet another way for war critics to attack the US and its effort.

You are likely exactly right -

But it is shameful that our side, that the RNC/WH have not made certain behind the scenes that a fully resourced WOT supporting 527 was not up and running (two years ago now).

We knew who the MSM was and that they would relish helping our enemies. The WH had to understand this, had to know this.

That a WOT supporting 527 is not up and running, putting out creative and informative bi-weekly ads...touting our successes, why we are in this fight and why we must stay on the offensive....that this 527 still does not exist is shameful.
