Reagan "sold us out" to Mexico, despite that stupid quote on the "nation without borders" that people like to quote. Every President since Carter has "looked the other way" on illegal immigration.

Besides, with Mexican birthrates plummetting, and abortion now legal in DF, in 30 years, it will be folks named Perez complaining about the illegals from Nigeria. ;-)

Reagan signed on to an “immigration fix” for two specific reasons. He was told there were only 1 million illegals in country and the new laws (if enforced) would end illegal immigration. That’s not a sellout by any stretch of the imagination, even if I did disagree with him.

Instead of 1 million being legalized upwards of 3.5 were initially and more followed. It was a huge mistake, but Reagan had no way of knowing how that bill would be bastardized over time, with the provisions to end illegal immigration never implemented,

These are the lessons some so-called conservatives are more than willing to ignore as they pony up to allow legalization of the promised 12 million that is actually 20 to 30.

Reagan always wanted to bring Canada and Mexico closer to us for Cold War reasons. His reasons for Amnesty seemed to be different than W’s, even so I think afterwards Reagan considered it a mistake. There has been no greater BS artist on the issue than W. “Doing the jobs Americans won’t do” and “Family values don’t stop south of the Rio Grande.” He’s full of it. Some of us will remember him as caring more for illegal Mexicans than American citizens.
