Bush to Dems: Veto will uphold life
The Baptist Press ^ | May 4,2007 | Tom Strode

President Bush promised congressional leaders May 3 he will veto any bill that diminishes pro-life protections in federal policies.

The president sent letters to both Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi "to make sure that there is no misunderstanding" of his position, Bush said. The president said he would veto any measure sent him by the Democratic-controlled Congress that "weakens current Federal policies and laws on abortion, or that encourages the destruction of human life at any stage."

Bush's messages to Reid and Pelosi came after he received letters from groups of Republicans in both houses urging him to make a public commitment to veto such measures. The letters -– sent Feb. 15 from 34 senators and March 30 from 155 representatives -– were signed by enough members in both houses to sustain a veto. A two-thirds majority in each chamber is required to override a veto.

Pro-life advocates praised Bush's pledge.

Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, described Bush's action as a "bold step" that "has cemented his place as the most pro-life president both in word and deed since abortion on demand was made legal by the infamous Roe v. Wade decision in 1973

Wasn’t the pro-surrender Al-Qaeda sympathizer Harry Reid supposed to be “pro life?”

Ya know, W hasn’t always ‘done the right thing’ but then he does something like this and you just can’t help but respect him and be happy he is the Pres!

My only concern with him is immigration. I have no problem with a guest worker program, but I DO NOT want illegals to get citizenship. Other than that, I still support him and the RNC - always with stipulations about RINOS and immigration.

That’s why his approval rating is around 28%. If he was on the other side of the immigration issue it would be 50%.

Anyone that believes his approval rating is at 28% is an idiot. Newsweek, liberal polling firms intentionally are trying to put low numbers. Rasmussen has consistently had him low to mid 40’w which is realistic. 28% is not and throwing numbers around like that are laughable.

Pelosi, a Catholic and Reid, a Mormon are both a disgrace. I can only hope that the Catholic Church and the Mormons throw those two bums out of their respective religions. Neither one is Pro Life and should both be excommunicated for their outrageous voting records.

Actually his approval rating is 40%. The 28% was a Newsweak propaganda poll.

I agree that if he would suddenly change sides and come down hard on illegal immigration his approval would spike up.
