“Who cares about France?”

I do. Despite it’s problems and current politics, France is (or was) a great country and culture. France is part of Western civilization and Western civilization (of which the USA is a part) must stick together against the Islamofascist terrorist war against America, Israel, the Jews and all of Western and Anglo civilization.

Sure, there are many things to dislike about parts of French life and politics, etc., but overall they have added much to world culture. And all Frenchmen are not “cheese eating surrender monkeys”. There are some tough French military.

I admit, much of Europe and the UK are disappointing today, but it’s not over quite yet.

America and the world need Europe and it’s culture and contributions to a more rational world civilization.

We must stick together against Islamofascism and it’s backwards, primitive, barbaric and savage culture, beliefs, behavior, religion and plans for a world caliphate.

I can’t see why so Freepers care about this. Sorry.

There were two possible outcomes today and this is the better of the two. It's that simple.

Napkin, let's try to wish them well today.

They are electing what is almost a rightwing leader. And one that has considerable courage.

I'd point out that both political parties in this country are pulling for him quietly. And he is on very good terms with our president.

Let's be nice today. Give this Frenchman a chance. He's no Chirac and he's no socialist.

Royal warns..or is this a threat?

"It is my responsibility today to warn people of the risk of his candidacy concerning the violence and brutality that would be unleashed in the country," she said, suggesting that unrest was especially likely in the volatile suburbs that were the site of rioting in 2005.

My view is it is a step. What I don’t know and I suspect the other posters are asking is is he outside the welfare state consensus in Europe. Or will he just continue the slide while being a bit less anti-American?

Good post. Many weary Americans need to hear this sort of anecdotal evidence more than some numbers from a talking head on TV.

I'm surprised that Segolene Royal hasn't surrendered yet. It's not in character.

Thanks for your reasoned post at #25. I know I have mentioned it elsewhere, but your frank insight is always valuable since you don't just vent some bile, but instead, show your on-the-ground insight of involvement and those that have watched you over the years know how true you are on a consistant basis.

I guess I will have to examine my bitterness that I have held the last few years.

This is a great opportunity for France. A great day for France, and a great day for Americans. A strong, pro-American France as a friend, ally, and trading partner is very important to us.

That, and it is a further sign of Europe's shift rightward. Bit by bit, election by election, Europe moves one step closer to saving itself from the violent, shiftless hordes who quietly invaded during the past few decades.

This is gonna show how ignorant I am of French politics...

but

Which one is which?

is it true that one is a ultra right anti-semitic and the other is an avowed socialist?

If that is true, why is either a cause for celebration?

I ask for patience until we can safely say that Monsieur Sarkozy has won. He surely is the better option for France, Europe, and the transatlantic alliance.
