GIULIANI URGES CLINTON TO RELEASE ISRAELI SPY (1999, Jonathan Pollard)
Times Union | Sep 29, 1999 | Stewart M. Powell

Posted on 05/06/2007 11:57:38 AM PDT by calcowgirl

WASHINGTON -- New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani urged President Clinton Tuesday to free convicted Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard, a move that could boost Jewish support for the Republican's prospective Senate campaign -- and complicate a possible run in 2000 by First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton.

...

Regarding Pollard, Giuliani said the Israeli deserves presidential clemency because the life sentence for espionage given him in 1987 goes "way beyond" sentences given in the past to American citizens convicted of spying for a U.S. ally.

Pollard, a former civilian U.S. Navy intelligence analyst, has already served a longer prison term than enemy spies who are routinely traded by their governments, according to Giuliani, a former federal prosecutor and associate attorney general in the Justice Department.

"It seems to me that there was an appropriate basis on which the President could exercise his discretion and cut that particular sentence," Giuliani said, adding that Pollard has "served much more than anyone else convicted of the same thing."

Giuliani stressed that he was restating a position that he had taken on the Pollard case "a couple of years ago" rather than announcing a new position.

The Clinton administration continues to review clemency for Pollard following repeated requests by the Israeli government. ...

...

Giuliani deflected questions about whether he would endorse Texas Gov. George W. Bush as the Republican presidential nominee. The Associated Press quoted a top New York GOP official as saying the mayor could make such an announcement on Thursday.

No. Pollard is still trying to pass “hot” data to Israel. Now, I’d swap Pollard for Vanunu, but that seems to upset the Israelis.

The facts keep rolling in, exposing Rooty for his liberal politics. Rooty takes another hit, knocked down another notch. This is great stuff.

Releasing a traitor to get votes. Now there’s an admirable quality. Thanks calcowgirl!

Whenever I feel bad for Pollard,  I think of the USS Liberty until the sympathy goes away.

Great find!

BTW!

I’ve been trying to connect Rudy with Mauro Giuliani who 1819 left Vienna, mainly for financial reasons: his property and bank accounts were confiscated to pay his debtors.

This could be another smoking gun exposing the Giuliani family (if this is one of his ancestors) to lack of knowledge when it comes to finances.

Mauro Giuliani appears to have had an illegitimate daughter named Maria.

Anybody got more info on this stuff?

LOL. Michael Milken served a whole 18 months of his 10 year sentence, and Rudy thinks he served his time?

And according to this, Rudy wasn’t just calling for Clemency for Pollard, but a PARDON!

http://www.jonathanpollard.org/2001/012201a.htm

Giuliani said he was “shocked” that Clinton was not merciful to felons who truly turned their lives around, such as disgraced Wall Street wizard Michael Milken, or Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard.

“Michael Milken has paid his price,” Giuliani said. “Unlike Marc Rich, he actually went to jail, actually paid his dues to society.”

The junk bond king was one of the high-profile convictions Giuliani won as federal prosecutor. After serving 22 months of a 10-year sentence, Milken became a philanthropist who crusaded for a cure for prostate cancer and counseled the mayor on his own bout with the disease.

As for Pollard, Giuliani said he is “probably serving the longest sentence any spy has ever served” and deserved a pardon.

Giuliani also joined cop groups in blasting Clinton for pardoning Susan Rosenberg, who was linked to - but never charged with - a 1981 Brink’s armored car robbery that left two police officers dead in Nyack, Rockland County.

Rosenberg enjoyed her first day of freedom yesterday after being sprung from the federal prison in Danbury, Conn., on Saturday. She could not be located for comment.

Among the others getting pardons were Clinton’s half-brother, Roger, and Clinton’s Whitewater business partner Susan McDougal. Giuliani’s friend William Fugazy, a former limousine mogul, also received a pardon from Clinton.

“Again, unlike the Marc Rich case, Bill Fugazy pled guilty, was sentenced, paid his price,” the mayor said, adding that Fugazy “may be one of the most charitable people in the City of New York.”

Not to worry. Jonathan Pollard (who stole US national security secrets) may still be in jail, but security "expert" Rudy Giuliani is still reaping the benefits of his efforts..........even though Rudy's nose IS a little browner.

Tearing up the Saudi check, tossing Arafat out of the concert, urging Clinton to release Pollard----hey, every little bit helps when you're running for president. Read on.

EXCERPT April 21, 2007 -- A group of Israelis has launched a grass-roots effort to get people living in the Jewish state who are eligible to vote in the United States to line up behind Rudy Giuliani, it was reported yesterday. The group, Giuliani Supporters in Israel, was launched by Mordechai Twersky, a onetime candidate for state Assembly in The Bronx ...... "I did this as a private personal initiative, as a proud American and Israeli citizen..." Twersky told the NY Post. He said the Giuliani campaign hadn't set up his group, but that he's been in contact with Team Giuliani......Giuliani has historically been popular with Jewish voters, and took a hard pro-Israel line when he was in office........ In some past elections, planeloads of Israelis with American citizenship have flown to the United States to vote.

This is my thoughts on Rudy: Right after 911 he had these people on the streets removed by ground zero who were selling 911 tee shirts, 911 hats, 911 posters, etc etc. Disgusting opportunistic pigs he said. What he called those people, that`s how I see this RINO today. If this idiot uses 911 anymore than he has to enrich and promote himself, I`m going to puke. The only thing he ever did during 911 was not leave the city. If that makes him “Amercias Mayor” then what does that make Ray Nagin?

Thanks for the ping. Nice find.

Giuliani proves once again he’s “tough on crime”, and THE “national security” candidate (gag, heave, spew).

Kerik hogging FBI files is a distinct possibility.

“On 9/11 I announce as the 9/11 candidate. I would not even be here on 9/11 if 9/11 had not happened.

I own 9/11. 9/11 is my lucky number.

Even my dog is named 9/11. And my wife has 9/11 tattoed on her thigh.

I get up at 911 AM everyday and retire at 911 PM.

I only buy cars that get 9 to 11 miles to the gallon.

9/11 is the lottery number I play everyday.

I live on 911 Ninth Street at the corner of 11th Avenue.

I’m buying the 7/11 store chain and renaming it 9/11. 9/11 will be forever embedded in the memory of 9/11
post-America.

I shall make 9/11 a national holiday....that’s why I’m running.”
