Looks pretty red to me. The population of Chicago is a significant percentage of the overall population of the state. We can thank the Illinois GOP for their poor performance over recent years, and their last governor George Ryan who put them in a position that makes the prospect of a conservative government in Illinois almost laughable.

Problem with your claim is that MOST of the voters in the state DO live in those blue areas. All the vast red you think you see has NO PEOPLE in it!
