Between 300 and 400 youths protesting against French president-elect Nicolas Sarkozy smashed shop windows, burnt scooters and clashed with police in central Paris on Monday evening, Reuters witnesses said.
Several hundred riot police tried to chase the youths, who gathered in the Place de la Bastille chanting anti-Sarkozy slogans on two separate occasions during the evening.
At least two scooters were burnt, telephone cabins were smashed and several cars were damaged. Around 35 people were arrested and there were several clashes between the youths and police.
In Nantes, in western France, around 400 protesters gathered in the centre of the town. They smashed windows and damaged several cars before being dispersed by police with tear gas.
Around 500 protesters gathered in Lyon eastern France, and in Caen in northern France around 800 people demonstrated in the centre of the town. French radio said there were other protests in other towns.
Sarkozy's win on Sunday night was marred by violence. Overnight demonstrators set fire to 730 cars and injured 78 policemen.
On the other hand, maybe the protesters are just so depressed over Sarkozy’s win that they’ve lost the will to burn people’s cars.
I’m perplexed.

All civilized countries should consider taking the gloves off for demonstrations like this. When a small few get away with trying to circumvent free elections they are emboldened to do worse.
Also, I’m sure everyone recognizes that this is the M.O. of the left. Did I miss where the writer mentioned that?
How much is car insurance in France? How can anyone afford it?
If I was Sarko, I’d issue ammo and orders to start shooting anybody who smashes a window or torches a car.
Shoot a couple every night and see how long they keep it up. I’d also start mass deportations of anyone there illegally.
I’m not too worried. Next week, in soccer, Strasbourg plays Metz (#1 and #2 teams). Now that’s when the rioting starts !!!

Note to French people: If you wish to stop having your nation overrun, go grab one of those five to ten million hidden firearms and defend your property against those who rampage. You’ll see this end immediately.
So long as you continue to hide in your homes and let them rampage, they will continue, until either they get their way, or until you’re no longer alive to protest.
