The thing that gets me about all of this is that everybody and their brother knew that putting Little Miss Perky into the anchor seat of an evening newscast was a recipe for disaster in the long term.

Williams at least tries to give some semblance of objectivity, and Gibson and Schieffer have a certain gravitas. Couric has neither. She’s fine for one of those mind-numbing morning shows and would’ve been an immediate improvement over Les Moonves’s wife, but let’s face it, she’s not a news anchor.

Another little aside here, I have to laugh when people say this criticism is because she’s a woman. That’s not true at all. While I’ve never been a fan of the “news bunny” whose only redeeming quality is their looks, there are plenty of respectable female journalists out there. For instance, Elizabeth Vargas was probably one of the best anchors on network TV during her brief tenure, and people like Diane Sawyer, Lesley Stahl and Meredith Vieira despite their flaws would be at least modest improvements over Couric.

I know. It’s not that she’s a woman at all. It’s that she’s an empty-headed, shallow woman. There’s a big difference.
