WASHINGTON — Stepping into the rancorous national debate over global warming, the U.S. intelligence community has launched an examination of the security threats that could be triggered by rising temperatures, officials said Thursday.

Maybe some day they’ll get around to investigating the people using the issue to commit fraud.

“Good grief. As if the CIA does`nt have enough to do, already.”

Since they have so much things to do, should the intelligence community just ignore potentially serious threats? Great logic there.

Hey, I’m sure the CIA will be just as accurate about this as Soviet strength before the fall of the Berlin Wall, Saddam’s intentions toward Kuwait in 1991, and the Iraq stockpiles of WMD. :-))

Great! The CIA will start telling us what SPF sunscreen to wear instead of breaking up terrorist plots. Thanks dems, I feel safer already.

Isn't that a sure sign that Global Warming doesn't pose a threat?

Makes you think maybe CIA is a fake agency; the real intel work either takes place elsewhere or doesn’t happen at all.

They can’t tell us what happened to the WMD they told us Saddam had, they can’t locate Bin Ladin, but according to most Dems, global warming is a far more dangerous threat than Al Qaeda anyway.

How about this for a Global Warming Security Impact Assessment? Make sure your Maldive Island safe houses are on the second floor, and make sure you get high efficiency air conditioners for all of the others. Oh, and guayaberas. Make your agents wear guayaberas. The best thing for warm weather, can’t beat them, and the loose shirt tails help to hide your PDA.

Good grief -- the Intelligence community took this (national security issue) on long before it became an "issue" in congress.

I think it's a bit disingenuinous to synthesize this into a partisan fight. Clearly, there is a congressional fight now -- but it is a very silly one that panders to the media slime machine. The work has already been done.

The root of the problem lies with the Directors of US Intelligence Agencies and our nation's Military advisors who took action and created this study/report over the past few years -- without asking permission! Perhaps they should be fired for what they have done.

From the Article (which is worth reading):

"The intelligence community has for a long time studied the impact that environmental factors — things like scarce resource and natural disasters — can have on global security," said CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano. "Those are real issues."

Global warming has also become a matter of growing concern to military advisors.

A panel of former high-ranking military officers led by retired Army Gen. Gordon R. Sullivan recently published a report that concluded that "projected climate change poses a serious threat to America's national security."

The report by the nonprofit CNA Corp. found that food shortages and water scarcity could weaken failing governments and "foster the conditions for internal conflicts, extremism, and movement toward increased authoritarianism and radical ideologies."

And allowed Aldrich Ames, etc to work almost openly for the USSR. The CIA has been of little use since they got neutered in the 1970's.

Methinks our porous, almost nonexistent borders pose more of a threat than the global warming farce/swindle!!!
