Dems lose either way. Not to mention at the polls, I don't think they could bank this action into any landslide for them.

K-one, thanks for expostulating on the dilemma. You explained it beautifully.

The only thing I can figure out is that it's a purely emotional public poll -- complete with unabashed naivety. No political strategist would push this spin...

More likely the impeachment attempt fails (at best from D point of view, succeeds in the House but conviction fails in the Senate)...public gets the idea that Congress isn’t doing anything useful (as in ‘98)....

That I don't know either. This CBS "Face The Nation" Insider Advantage/Majority Opinion poll is a real unknown to me. I wonder what the exact questions was (word for word). I wonder under what circumstances it was taken (phone, mail, door-to-door or stop people on the street). How many answered this poll (2, 10, 500).

Then again I don't believe in polls. Especially when the prior Administration used them to make all decisions.
