I see...so he is no longer around...so he can’t file for custody.

This is all so strange - talk about disfunctional.

That’s what I was thinking. When I was in college, I knew a woman who had a illegitimate child and the child’s actual father had disappeared. She knew a man who was dying of a chronic disease, so she talked him into marrying her and claiming the child was his. When he died, about six months later, she and her child claimed the survivor benefits. I don’t know how this turned out, because this person was an acquaintance with whom I did not want to keep up. I do remember feeling sorry for the baby, bacause of the kind of “family” it had.
