Henry Waxman, the most dogged of congressional committee chairmen, has been described by the Republicans as 'the scariest man in Washington'.
Since the Democrats took control of the House and Senate in January, he has been in overdrive, launching inquiries into issues ranging from global warming to White House emails, and the one that concerns the congressman most - Iraq.
Nancy Pelosi, the House speaker, is the public face of the new Democrat-led Congress, but Mr Waxman is the embodiment of the pent-up release of Democratic energy, determined to harry George Bush in his last two years in office.
The Bush administration is feeling the squeeze, from the White House to the Pentagon, state department and various federal organisations. Mr Waxman is currently waiting for the response from the secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice, on whether she will give evidence about the run-up to the war in Iraq. He issued a subpoena last month demanding her presence before his committee and, though she has hinted she will not attend, he seems confident that she will. In an interview in his office overlooking Congress, he said his main concern is to discover why Mr Bush took the country to war. The issue has been churned over by journalists, by books from insiders and in reports but Mr Waxman does not feel anyone has yet got to the heart of the matter.
"We have gone to war, lost thousands of people _ Americans, British, many more Iraqis - and spent billions of dollars. The whole of the Middle East is in turmoil ... It is hard to know where you are going if you do not know how you got there."

You forgot the word “Looking” in your headline.
He’s an annoying little bug....
Henry Nostrilitis Waxman
He’s the hockey goon of the Democratic party.
LOL, are you trying to tell me, that in your opinion, nicotine is not an addictive substance?
This sort of transparent political propagandizing is one of he reasons “NEWS” organizations are having to slash staff and try to sell off outlets.
He is a troll that hides in our protected halls of government.
I still say his momma musta carried him around by the nose when he was a child.......dang! Get a paper sack already!
Gee, I thought the scariest man in Washington was either George Bush, Dick Cheney or Karl Rove- at least that’s what the msm has been tellin’ me all along...
Nex, he is reopening the investigation into the Kennedy assassination. Maybe it was Rove./s
Consider the source: The Guardian. I think these stupid investigations are not of interest to most Americans. They are getting really stale already.
The British papers, even the more conservative ones, always misinterpret American politics. Back when Jeb Bush was running for reelection in Florida, they had a major article in the Times of London about how he was a goner due to a poor debate performance?? Only the NY Times felt that way. Most other sources said he won big. And he did. He won that election in a landslide. I think those Brits get their info from the lefty reporters in this country and believe whatever they say.
My dogs take a “Waxman” every day out in the yard. We then bag it and throw it in the trash where it belongs. Shows you how much I respect that P.O.S.
As a rule I try not to make fun of the way people look but Waxman is an astonishingly ugly person.
‘The ugliest man in Washington’
Amazing isn’t it? You know the guy has to have the $$ to fix some things with plastic surgery.
The Guardian is somewhere to the left of Pravda circa, 1970.
