The State Department labeled Hamas a terrorist organization in its 1993 annual report on international terrorism. After that, the FBI then began to collect information on US charities that supported Hamas (especially in the Washington D.C. area, Bridgeview, Illinois and Detroit and Dallas). The FBI operation was shut down by the Clinton administration in 1995. It was later reported that the State Department was concerned, “that a public probe would expose Saudi Arabia’s suspected ties to a global money-laundering operation that raised millions for anti-Israel terrorists.” (Jerry Seper, Washington Times, March 3, 2002). Then as now, as long as political correctness dominates the White House the money flow will continue.
