Sadr’s thugs. Backed by Iran. The biggest problem in Iraq these days.
In terms of destorying US public opinion of the war though al-Qaeda is number one. Everytime they blow up Iraqis the US press goes wild and calls it sectarian violence or signs civil war is breaking out.
As far as I'm concerned, the media is one of the domestic enemy.
The media serves one master the media. Big explosions sell. Signs of progress, schools opening, etc don’t sell as well.
What the Army needs to give them is something they can sink their teeth into for awhile like another Jessica Lynch. But, this time they better check the facts better.
That's why bombing Iran is completely off the table. While they'd prefer to subvert Iraq totally and completely through the political process, they'd burn it to the ground in retaliation for an attack on them. The US government's been increasingly delicate with Iran, and this is why.
I'm well aware. I've been watching the media vs. the reality for over three years now.
It's reprehensible what they do. And believe me, it's more than merely covering explosions over reconstruction efforts. I have seen them actually influence events time and time again, by using crafty timing, blatant distortion and other such schemes.
If you are talking about Abu Ghrieb you are certainly right the media like the NY Times used it succesfully to alter in a very negative way US detainee policy in Iraq.
Iraqi police and military should be able to call in US air support in some situations.
This might be one of them.
Abu Ghraib is one example. Of many. Some with very violent repercussions.
They can.
The tribal ERUs can call in US air support.
Why don’t I hear about it more often then?
Dunno. Because the media doesn't talk about it?
It happens more often than people would think. We hear the firefights start and hear the air cover go up. I've reported hearing those very things live on FR a few times.
I’m happy just knowing it’s happening! Thanks!
Stay safe!
Something went down just a short time ago and there is air activity right now. Can't say too much since I don't know what is being released publicly. Just strange that you asked about it and now something's going on.
THANK YOU for your service. :-)
I got to jump out of airplanes, and they paid me!
What could be better? ;^)
