The success or failure of Normandy affected Hitler more in an hour than had years of pleading with him in the 1930s.Man, ain't that the truth. I like the idea of a President who reads (and quotes) Victor Davis Hansen. Go Fred!

What’s the quote? (paraphrasing):
“Those societies that fail to study military history will be destroyed by those that do.”

Once again, Thompson makes a clear, factual error in one of these articles, which are the heart of his campaign-that-is-not-yet-a-campaign. He refers to a "battle at Valley Forge." There was, of course, never any battle at Valley Forge. There was a critical survival of George Washington, but no battle.

Apparently Fred didn’t learn during his college days in the 60’s that folk songs are all that is needed for us to defend ourselves against those who wish us harm.

If for no other reason than that we want to avoid war whenever we can, universities should at least offer the option of studying it. this is the same logic used for war games that the military engages in.
i have posted all the FDT websites that i can find on my profile page. Please let me know if i have missed some and i will add them.

Three things about Sen. Thompson that are unique among the candidates or would-be candidates:
He is thoughtful AND well-read. Very rare in politics.
He is a reformer.
He is a Great Communicator in the mold of RWR.

One area of study that's almost disappeared from universities today is military history -- the history of warfare. Actually history, itself, has virtually disappeared. Yes, there are history classes, but few take them. My kids (UVa and Cornell) took virtually no history classes while undergraduates.

I’m not sure most colleges are the best place for military history, considering who would be likely to get tenure in the subject. I agree that it is a vital subject to study and understand however. Clausewitz, and maybe even Elliot Cohen and John Keegan should be required reading. What a lot of anti-war activists seem to fail to understand is that a badly prosecuted war is always worse for both sides than a well prosecuted one, regardless of moral right.

To quote John Wayne, "Well, that cut's it".
FDT is my man. I was for him before, but now he's quoting Victor David Hanson. That's a hat trick if there ever was one, pilgrim.

This man knows the America that I love! He truly needs to be our next President. He is the only Republican, outside of a handful in the House and Senate, that understands what America is and the dangers that she faces. Bush knows also... and that is why his agenda is so frelling hard to understand!
