Sounds like Rudy Giuliani.

And acts like him as well.

I recently read that while Rudy was mayor approximately 100,000 applications for NYC gun purchase permits were either arbitrarily denied or were dragged out by the people in charge of that department for such a long period of time by requiring repeat applications due to what were claimed to be reasons such as incomplete or improperly filled out applications, lack of proper documentation, failure to timely respond to requests for more information, failure to appear for personal interviews, blah, blah, blah, that the applicants just gave up in frustration and presumably forgot about buying a gun, or at least buying one legally.

The vast majority of those unsuccessful applicants were no doubt honest, law abiding NYC residents who wanted a gun for home protection, because criminals and prospective criminals don't even attempt going through the lengthy, complicated, and expensive ordeal of obtaining a NYC permit to buy a gun. They simply make contact with one of the many illegal sources for guns that exist in every city in the US and pay the higher price for a gun that is theirs without any paperwork or delays the moment they lay down the cash.

Now Rudy's annointed successor Bloomie is showboating for his liberal elitist supporters by sending his undercover agents into southern states, where they have no authority btw, to attempt to entrap unwary legal gun dealers in those states by buying guns using fake ID and giving false information on the required purchase forms. The federal BATF has protested Bloomie's tactic and the state of VA just enacted a law which now makes those agents criminals if convicted of attempting that kind of entrapment ruse in VA, and Bloomie has agreed to stop the illegal incursions, at least in VA.

No matter what Rudy says about the issue on the stump now, his record on the gun issue is very clear and very frightening. Any gun owner, or anyone who believes in constitutional government for that matter, who votes for Rudy is voting to nullify the protection that the 2nd Amendment was expressly written to provide for the basic human right to keep and bear arms for any and all lawful purposes. Rudy's advocates tell us that a president, even an ex-NYC mayor president, can't just arbitrarily outlaw gun possession by executive order except possibly during a declared state of emergency, and I think there is considerable doubt about that authority. But he or she does have the power to either veto or sign Congress's bills into federal laws that would do the same thing, and he/she does appoint federal judges and USSC Justices who can achieve the same effect simply by rendering an unconstitutional decision on the issue when a suitable case comes before his or her court.

Gun owners should also keep in mind that although Rudy now says on the stump that he understands the 2nd Amendment and is willing to leave the issue up to the states, he admits that he still believes that registering guns and licensing gun owners is constitutional, and is a good and proper act for state governments to take. The bottom line is that any gun owner who is even vaguely aware of the role that gun registration and licensing has played in other nations in the disarming of the people in preparation for a murderous dictatorship such as Hitler's or Stalin's will not be deceived by Rudy's seemingly benign current attitude toward guns and gun owners' rights.
