Police recruiters make pitch to hire noncitizens

The Santa Fe Police Department is looking at the possibility of recruiting Mexican nationals to fill vacancies on the city police force, say sergeants in charge of training and recruiting.

Sgts. Gillian Alessio and Marvin Paulk told the city's Public Safety Committee on Tuesday that they are trying to think outside the box to fill 20 vacancies on the 155-person force.

New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy regulations currently prohibit noncitizens from serving as police officers, Police Chief Eric Johnson said later.

Alessio told the city panel: ``Every day, we get approached by young men and women from Mexico who are in the country legally but are not naturalized. There is a huge pool of people who are dedicated, hard-working and trying to become citizens of this country. They would like nothing better than to devote their time to protecting the communities that they live in.''

Some cities in other states already hire noncitizens as police officers.

Both the city of Santa Fe and the state of New Mexico have policies against police officers trying to enforce federal immigration laws.

The government is OUT OF CONTROL like a runaway train. The government can no longer be trusted

Isn't there something in the Declaration of Independence about government not being responsible to the citizens??

Damn, I just can't seem to remember that. Can anyone help me out here?

This really caps the immigration argument. Now, I suppose the move will be to use alien cops to enforce foreign laws against American citizens. Grrrrr.

Why don’t they simplify things and declare their city part of Mexico. All doubt would then be removed.

They're NOT going to be satisfied with just the city. They want the whole state, country, continent! There now, I got it right. ;o)

Should we start calling burglars “undocumented guests?”

No it hasn’t. America is great and prospering. Why are you a half glass empty type of person. The only question I have is what is wrong with people in Santa Fe who don’t want a job on the police force? There must be something wrong with the way they are treated or something because most cities have no trouble filling jobs.

They do this and Los Zetas will have legitimate presence on an American police force on this side of the border.

The hideous violence of the Mexican border town's narcotrafficates will be right in Santa Fe NM inside of a decade.

People will wonder 'How did this happen?!' when they finally read about it on the cover of Newsweek in 2011.

That is why they can’t get people to work there. The highest person makes 42,000 dollars a year before taxes. You may have just answered everyone’s questions. I know that there are a few bennies, but 100 dollars for language. You can never really make over average American Wage.

Thats what happens with a lot of smaller cities. Guys start there to get a foot in the door, and then transfer to a larger city for better pay.

They need to bump the salaries at least 50% if they want to get and keep good people. Hiring foreigners when you aren't willing to pay a decent salary isn't an answer.

In the article they mention that they are recruiting from San Diego. But San Diego cops make probably double what Santa Fe is offering, and Oregon cops probably make at least 50% more. So if they think they can seriously recruit people without raising their salaries they are dreaming.

I don't think they have to look that far to fill those positions; they should send a notice over to the National Guard armory in town, and recruit the guys coming home from overseas. Pay a decent wage, and they should have no problem hiring as many as they want.

::::
Remember the Alamo.....there are going to be MANY p@ssed off Mexican-Americans (REAL ONES) who did it legally, and have no love for these criminals who are gonna get a pass from the reprobate Congress who want to let them in as a REWARD FOR BREAKING THE LAW, and not following procedure.

The Washington government has made ALOT of mistakes in my days -— but this takes the cake. They just do not give a damn about America, the will of its REAL people — they are just pandering to their elitist agendas and destroying America in the process.

Maybe they can’t find 20 citizens who want a job where they have to give a pass to illegal aliens.
