Well, since you won't answer any serious question like "what the heck is your problem?" Maybe you can answer us these questions:

Have you ever been in a Turkish Prison, Wheeenie?

I think wheep for the sheeple started this thread because this person has an overwhelming need/desire/habit to aggravate folks. Sounds just like someone else we know, eh?

However, the only thing he/she has accomplished was once again making themselves out to be a laughingstock tool.

Wheee either went to bed, or crawled off with his tail between his legs. heh!

He sure didn't make any friends by posting this thread.  I hate to say this..........but he is a DU Jerk!

I agree. It’s hard to believe that anyone that states such crap can call themselves a conservative with a straight face.

Like I said............I have a very long list of anti-smoking FReepers. Just makes me barf!

If Fred Thompson does finally decide to officially run for President, watch the mainstream media viciously attack him very soon for being a cigar smoker.

“Social Conservatives applaud this and we like the results despite the wailing and gnashing of teeth here.”

Do you also applaud the Kelo decision? How about when the same tools are used to implement hate speech decisions against folks that are fighting the homosexual agenda?

Be careful what you applaud for someday that applause will drown out the sound of the folks that are ready to use your tools against you.

Both the loony left and the righteous right are equally dangerous to this one time Republic. Both want to use the government guns to enforce their chosen morals. Both want to take away the gift of free will that was given to man by God. Both want to give government the authority of God over our lives.

Both are evil and we can hope they receive their just rewards.

So what you’re saying is that social conservatives are actually nanny-staters, is that it? I’ve always suspected as much, anyway. Just remember, the same government that forces a smoking ban on private business owners, “for our own good”, will force your kids into gay indoctrination classes in school, “for their own good”. Welcome to a hell of your own creation, hope you enjoy it.

But those local ordinances create an unequal playing field for bar and restaurant owners who fear they'll lose business to nearby communities. The statewide bill goes a long way toward leveling the playing field.

..he says as the customers desert the bars in East Grand Forks and Moorehead..and head west to North Dakota.

The only problem is that this will enhance business (even in the smoke-free restaurants) in Fargo and Grand Forks, which will provide skewed data to proove that such bans don't hurt business. YMMV

“I forgot to tell you. The County Sheriff is a Nam Vet and that’s his favorite place to have a few beers. Oh yes, He’s a cigar smoker. I met the guy.”

So you like law enforcement folks who decide on their own what laws they will and won’t enforce? I don’t like blanket smoking bans, but I wouldn’t want this guy as my sheriff.

This quote by C.S. Lewis bears repeating!!

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be ‘cured’ against one’s will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals. But to be punished, however severely, because we have deserved it, because we ‘ought to have known better,’ is to be treated as a human person made in God’s image.” - C.S. Lewis

I get sicker and sicker everytime I hear about “conservatives” supporting or enforcing nanny state legislation in the name of CHRIST.
These are the exact type of fools HE drove out of the temple with a whip, the only sign of GOD’s wrath we saw expressed in The Incarnation was against religious hypocrites and Pharisees, like Whee The People.

Jesus absolutely despised politics and completely refused to get involved.

His refusal to get involved politically and drive the Romans out was one of the main reasons the Pharisees and Sadduccees demanded that Pontius Pilot crucify him. People like Whee The People were the ones in the crowd spitting, kicking and stoning Him as he lugged the Cross to Calvery.

Let me say this again, those who hold the views of Whee The People - that the deadly force of government should be used to enforce thier moral preferences ARE EXACTLY THE SAME PEOPLE WHO DEMANDED JESUS BE EXECUTED. They are the modern Pharisees and only innoculate the lost against the Gospel.

I’m a born again Christian but I believe I have to make a new name for people like Whee The People, the Drug Warriors, Smoke Nazi’s, anti gambling and legal prostitution people on this board and in our country.

I FOREVER PROCLAIM THEE CHRISTOFASCISTS.

They are Christofascists - fascists who would point a gun to your head and threaten to pull the trigger unless you stop your self destructive behavior if they had the courage. Hypocrites and cowards who beg the government to do this on thier behalf, in the name of GOD. Thier hearts are full of murder because they believe they are superior to those around them because of the outward morally cleaner life they live. White washed tombs, clean on the outside and full of death.

You said, in part: All citizens do NOT have any “right” to breathe clean air.
***

I agree with you. Of course, there is no “right” to smoke either. Both are subject to restriction by local, state and federal action. I don’t support a whole lot of restrictions on smoking, and NONE on private property, including restaurants and bars. The owners should decide, and no one else, then let the market deal with it.

I don’t care for smoking, but plenty of people do enjoy it, as you do. It IS kind of unique, in that it does directly affect (not saying it cause cancer or anything) those around the smoker. Drinking doesn’t. Eating fatty foods doesn’t. (Stinky perfume/cologne does, as does farting, but they don’t seem to be as big a problem to most.)

We conservatives are not supposed to be big on laws governing personal choices. Smoking bans, although I disagree with most of them aren’t really directed the health of the smoker. If they were, cigarettes would have been outlawed years ago. Government and citizens love the tax money, but many just don’t like the smell/aroma/stench (depending on your view). Others do like it, and when they are in the minority, as smokers are, these bans are hardly to be unexpected.

The smoking ban is merely a practice run like when Hitler sent the Wehrmacht into the Rhineland.
