Rudy is right on this. Ron Paul misses the big picture that many of the other candidates and most conservatives grasp ---> the Islamic radicals want to establish a world-wide caliphate regardless of whether we are in Iraq or staying locked up at home twiddling our thumbs waiting for them to come here.

Everyone should read this article:

The textbooks paint an alarming picture of a regime that divides the world between "good" and "evil" forces that are destined to clash until a victory is reached. Since the evil and arrogant West seeks to destroy Iran, a war is inevitable. Iranians are hence tasked with a religious mission of fighting "evil" until the latter's final eradication, or, until the "good" camp is wiped out. In Ayatollah Khomeini's words, reproduced in an eleventh-grade textbook: "Either we shake one another's hand in joy at the victory of Islam in the world, or all of us will turn to eternal life and martyrdom.

The Iranian school textbooks reveal a frightening vision of an extremist regime that prepares its school children for another such episode -- an Armageddon-like global war against the West.

The Ayatollah's words make it quite clear what they think -- either they win or they win anyway.

This problem has been building since the destruction of the Turkish Empire and the overthrow of the Ottoman Caliphate, leaving a power vacuum in the Arab Middle East. When the British and French denied the Arabs a unified state with Damascus, the ancient seat of the Arab Caliphs, as their capital, fascist movements and parties began to fill the vacuum and seize the countries established by the colonial powers. They target us because we replaced the British and French as the leading Western power.

To say the islamofascism we face to today was caused by the United States is profoundly ignorant and reflects the same kind of self-hating mentality practiced by the liberals.

Who is "they?"

And if the information you cited is an accurate representation of what Iran's world view is, then why the hell did the U.S. topple Saddam Hussein instead of leaving him right where he was -- to enable him to keep Iran under control as he had done throughout the 1980s?
