Pro-immigration rally held in Los Angeles [Help Me With Villaraigosa's Quote!]

LOS ANGELES, May 17 (Xinhua) -- About 2,000 people returned to a downtown Los Angeles park Thursday evening to continue a May Dayrally that was interrupted by police, just hours after federal lawmakers announced a new compromised immigration bill in Washington.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa led a 10-block procession to MacArthur Park, where demonstration organizers held a candlelight vigil during the festive gathering.

"One Los Angeles marched together in peace to stand up for the idea that in a great and generous America, we have every right to march peaceably, to speak out against the government, to ask to be a part of the American dream," the mayor said while standing alongside police chief William Bratton.

Demonstrators, journalists and police officers were injured at the end of a march supporting the rights of illegal immigrants in the same park on May 1, when police tried to disperse some people who moved off the sidewalk into the street, police said.

After bottles were thrown at police patrolling the park, officers clad in riot gear responded by wielding batons and firing 146 rounds of foam-rubber bullets to disperse the crowd.

The conflict later became a public relation headache for LAPD as demonstrators and journalists injured during the incident filed complaints, prompting investigations by the Los Angeles Police Commission and the FBI.

Thursday's demonstration, mostly participated by Latinos, was held the same day that an agreement on a bipartisan Senate bill between key senators and the White House was announced.

The bill would allow illegal immigrants to live legally in the United States, after paying a 5,000-dollar fine, and to receive temporary-resident permits while they apply for a "Z" visa.

Heads of illegal-immigrant households would have eight to 13 years to return to their home countries and apply for permanent legal residence for family members.

The proposal also shifted the emphasis from family unification to a merit-based system that would award points to illegal immigrants based on education level, work experience, English proficiency and family ties.

Pro-immigration groups said the bill does not go far enough, while those against illegal immigration said it goes too far.

Criticism against the bill from both sides suggested that Capitol Hill's latest push on the lingering immigration reform issue, although representing a potential breakthrough, could again end in a stalemate.

What has to happen is the American people have to march on one day, throughout the United States, and show these illegal immigrants how we the citizens feel about them! How they are not welcome here.

Even the “tired and poor” were always checked for diseases and papers when docking on Ellis Island.

What do we need, a terrorist getting in across the border and blowing up a city? What’s it going to take?

We love immigrants; we just want them knocking on the front door and not sneaking round the back - by the thousands.

Maybe that is what it will take. Every congressperson passing this bill should have 20 or 30 illegal aliens crashing their next dinner party, and someone to translate for them into English, “We are good, hardworking families, and we want part of the American dream that you share here, including those caviar canapes and some of that grilled salmon. Hey, your daughter’s kinda cute...”

Agendas of MEChA, La Raza, MALDEF, and Southwest Voter Registration Projects
This is a compilation of live, recorded statements by elected U.S. politicians, college professors, and pro-illegal alien activists whose objective is to take control of our country “by vote if possible and violence if necessary!”
The speakers listed below are not the “lunatic fringe”. They are some of the most powerful Latino leaders and politicians in America, whose allegiance is to foreigners of their ethnic group, not to the United States. They seek political power and realize the way to get it is to flood America with legal and illegal immigrants from their ethnic “tribe”. Simply by demographics, they will dilute the vote of American citizens and replace our American culture. “The Third World” is at your doorstep and anxious to present you with the bill as they jump on “the entitlement bandwagon.” If you think this is an exaggeration, you have only to witness California as a forewarning of where our entire country is headed.
A very sinister message being taught in many Ethnic Studies programs across this country. While MEChA and LA Raza, the two largest Latino organizations on college and high school campuses preach hatred for America, the liberal media ignores them, as the Ford, Rockefeller, Carnegie and other Foundations contribute millions to promote their anarchy. Pro-illegal immigration activists would have you believe “illegals” are coming here only to seek work and a better life. MEChA, LA Raza, MALDEF and the Southwest Voter Registration Project have much darker agendas. Listen to the following audio clips to understand their message.
“We call things racism just to get attention. We reduce complicated problems to racism, not because it is racism, but because it works.”

-— Alfredo Gutierrez, political consultant, as quoted by Richard de Uriarte, The Phoenix Gazette, March 14, 1992 (quoted in The ProEnglish Advocate, 1st quarter, 2002).

Damn straight they are mostly illegals. Or the children of illegals. You don’t live in L.A., do you? Illegals are getting pretty bold around here now, and why not? Their mayor fully supports them. The Cardinal fully supports them. And they are slowly wiping out the middle class.

Unfortunately, what the founding fathers envisioned is irrelevant and what is more relevant is how the Constitution has been amended and interpreted by the Supreme Court.

Thus today, illegal aliens are protected as people by the Constitution as in:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

This mayor has higher offices on his mind and still has the cojones to tell illegals they are absolutely RIGHT to demonstrate against our government here in our country. Does he know something we don't? Have we already lost?

When those designated and have taken an oath to uphold and enforce the law side with the illegals, then yes we have lost. We are being told TO OUR FACES that illegals have more voice in OUR country than we do. It ought to make everyone upset.

Worth repeating.....a few hundred times!!

This is another example of one of the biggest reasons we need to get them out of OUR country!!

I suppose this will sound "over the top" but, I blame our 'leaders' in DC for everyone who is murdered or dies because of an illegal. I blame them for every child or woman who is raped. I blame them for every crime committed against an American. They are as guilty as if they had done it themselves, simply because they have ALLOWED this to continue without ever putting a stop to it.

It's like Clinton parsing though, to give illegals that right.

If a lawbreaker is found, he is to be arrested and put to trial. These are all lawbreakers (most of them). They can't have the priority of peaceful assembly over the need to be arrested for their crime. Otherwise, every bank robber would stop running from the police and hold up a protest sign, and the police would have to stop and protect his passage.

Well perhaps the next time the illegals hit the streets to protest President Bush will order the Border Patrol and ICE to arrest them by the thousands at the protest site.

However, I would not hold my breath waiting for such an event to occur.

Until that time they are protected by the First Amendment just like you and I.

I assume you are of Mexican heritage. Well, you might be sensitive because illegal aliens hold your same background and culture, but we are not talking about the same thing.

We Americans and legal residents are all in the same boat. We are supposed to be here. We welcome newcomers who are supposed to be here.

If someone comes over illegally, regardless of the history of this continent, he does not belong. Therefore, any crimes he commits (and over 40% of prisoners in CA are illegally in the country), or diseases he brings over (like resistant TB and all sorts of other nasty bugs) make him even LESS wanted.

We don’t care what races or cultures our citizens and guests belong to. BUT WE DON’T LIKE INTERLOPERS. No matter where they are from. That’s not racist.

I think the rules and privileges apply to citizens

LA is the sorry future of this country, turned into a cess pool of Illegals. Except for running water, cable TV and electricity, it's isn't much different than Mexico.

I'm sorry for any decent person who is trapped living there. No matter how bad it gets, the illegals will think it's still better than Mexico. It's a barometer for sure..

The winds of change are on the horizon these days. We're mad as hell, and aren't going to take it anymore.

Can you name one city in Mexico that does not have running water, cable TV or electricity?

Listen Pal, if anyone has said anything racist it's you! You obviously take your talking points from La Raza and MEChA! You sound just like them! YOU are the racist!

YOU, just like them, can't stand the truth. YOU want to come to America and take it away from us. FYI, I'm NOT worried about any Mexican putting out my lights, and that includes you, so don't threaten me.

What I said about diseased, violent Mexicans is the truth. Then there are the welfare freeloaders. THAT is costing Americans billions!! Your problem is that you simply can't stand to hear the truth!

Take your racist remarks and unload on someone who cares! Do us all a favor. Go back to Mexico and take the rest of the illegals with you!

Btw, my people were here LONG BEFORE you were!

So we ate people and killed all the Native Americans? LOL You're nuts!

Villaraigosa is a former member of MECHA. Of course, he will sympathize with the plight of illegals. Then he will request more funding for overcrowed schools and other facilities.

Hillary has embraced La Raza. La Raza has been brought into their campaign to court the Hispanic voters. La Raza has worked in the past to oust military recruiters from the public school system.

Bill Clinton to Villaraigosa: “Let’s do lunch.”
