Rush: Immigration Bill Will Kill GOP
NewsMax.com ^ | May 18, 2007 | staff

Supporters call it a Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill, but top radio talker Rush Limbaugh has another name for it. He calls it the "Comprehensive Destroy the Republican Party Bill."

During Friday's syndicated broadcast of the Rush Limbaugh program, Rush criticized the Senate's immigration proposal as liberalism gone wild.

"Liberals are trying to tear this country down institution by institution and rebuild it in their own image, and this is one of the steps that they are trying to make it happen," he said.

Rush warned that if this bill comes out of the Senate in its present form - and it's highly doubtful that it will - the liberals in the House will not vote for it. He said the politicians realize that there are Democrats in California, Arizona, Texas and Virginia where illegal immigration is a red hot issue and a vote for this bill would be political suicide.

As for Republicans, they have already lost California, Rush reminded his listeners. If they lose Virginia and lose Florida, it's all over for the GOP as far as elections go. And being blamed for this immigration bill could cost them both states.

Rush explained that this is why Senate Democrats want Republicans to receive "credit" for passing this bill.

"It's a piece of legislation that hardly anybody has ever seen," he said, yet already "there are walls of opposition that are being built on all sides of this."

The bill, he warned, will create "a brand new, giant welfare state paid by the rest of us," yet illegal immigrants are telling the media: "'I don't like this. I don't like having to go home. I don't want to pay these fines.'"

They needn't worry, Rush said. The illegals will not be forced to go home at all. They are not going to pay any fines. It's not going to happen because there is no political will to do so.

"Once this bill passes they'll be talking about how if you have to go home it will split up families and they'll say the fines would be taking food out of the mouths of poor children by making the parents pay these ridiculous fines," Rush told his audience.

Speaking of why any Republicans are supporting the bill, Rush explained: "You could legalize rape in this country if you simply called it the Civil Rights Act of 2007 because nobody on Capitol Hill has the guts to vote against anything that claims to be broadening or creating civil rights. It's a code word."

“These Repub idiots are sacrificing their political futures and they don’t even seem to realize it.”

I know that, when he ran for the Senate, I supported and voted for Mel Martinez — but next time he has to run I will support and vote for anybody that runs against him — Bugs Bunny, Osama bin Laden, Billary — ANYONE!

The man’s a disgrace.

GWB has always been in the amnesty camp with the liberals. I still cannot fathom why. Low cost labor cannot possibly be as important to U.S. business interests as border security. This is about creating a voting block out of Hispanics while creating a schism in the GOP. If this is a chess match between Dean and Rove, this move definitely goes to Dean.

You include the very illegal aliens affected by this bill in your percentages, to try and paint a picture of inevitability? Who else uses the illusion of inevitability to force their unwanted societal changes upon a people? Socialists, that’s who.

If Bush was a democratic operative sent to destroy the party he couldn’t have done a better job. Its amazing how badly he has screwed up on the border issue in his presidency.

By the time that George Bush finishes his second term, everyone in this country of every political ilk will despise him. The only thing I can give him credit for is his ability to get everyone on every side of every issue to turn against him. Is that the sign of the ultimate in incompetitence?

If you really want to see the death knell of the Republican party, ignore the need to expand the tent to include these minority groups. I am ashamed of this ridiculous response. I admire and support Bush on this because he is behaving as an adult, not some spoiled adolescent stamping his foot.

The GOP can expand the tent all it wants. It will destroy itself as it does it, because it will become indistinguishable from the DNC. The differences now are few and far between -- frankly, its mostly lip service, now, anyway.

Conservatives never "expand the tent" because conservatism is an ideal, a principle, a core value that is only weakened by exceptions.

And if you believe that the majority of Hispanics who were born and raised here, or who came here legally, who learned the English language, and who want to be true Americans are for mass amnesty, you are dead wrong. They came here to escape the gangs, druglords, corruption, etc., that mass, unchecked illegal immigration has brought with it.

I realize you are new ‘round here, so I will be hospitable but if you think the illegals who come to this country will be voting “R” you are either the most naive person on the planet or the dumbest...they will vote for the “mommy” party who will continue to give them everything they want...free education, free medical, free food and free housing assistance. Comprendo? Let us all know when you catch on. LMAO

“GWB has always been in the amnesty camp with the liberals. I still cannot fathom why.”

Th reason is clear — as it has always been clear — Bush is a liberal. A liberal that understands Economics 101; supports a strong defense; and, doesn’t believe in killing babies — but, a liberal nonetheless.

You know the President of Mexico is shouting, “LET MY PEOPLE MOW!”

The biggest problem Mexico has had is the stork. I studied this in graduate school back in the 80s. They would not cut us a deal on oil unless we took in more of their people. We said no (Carter said no can you believe it?) and so they figured out they could come over illegally.

The GOP should keep in mind how the Republican party got its start.

If non-citizens are voting (and I don’t doubt that they are in some places) that means that every one of them that votes cancels out the same number votes of legal American citizens. So if this is true, the problem isn’t so much, “there goes the GOP”; but “there goes the Republic.”

This is one Virginian solid red voter who will be busy sorting sox on election day 2008.

Rudy and McCain are toast. Even among soaking wet Republicans, this “amnesty first, promises of enforcement later” bill is (justly) political seppuku for any Republican would-be nominee who supports it.

Fred, Duncan, maybe Romney. It’s narrowing.

Texas is next. With this new crackpot bill, Texas will be lost forever and there goes the GOP.

exactly right. The left must be laughing at how easy it is for them. I have nothing but contempt for any Rep that votes for this. They are willingly handing power over to the evil left. It doesn't make sense.

Rush is right that this bill will kill the GOP. But not for the reason he gives - i.e., that voters will “hold it against” Republicans for supporting amnesty. No, this will kill the GOP because amnesty and more daisy-chain immigration of the families from Mexico and South America will put TENS OF MILLIONS OF NEW DEMOCRATS ON THE VOTING ROLLS. More immigration equals more Democrat voters. Ted Kennedy gets it? Why doesn’t George Bush? (Or does Bush understand - but doesn’t give a flying falafel?)
