McCain, Cornyn Engage in Heated Exchange (F-Bomb)
Washington Post ^ | 05/18/2007 | Paul Kane

Posted on 05/18/2007 4:27:35 PM PDT by Responsibility2nd

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) hasn't spent much time in the Capitol this year as he seeks the GOP presidential nomination. But one of his rare appearances this week provided a pretty salty exchange with a fellow Republican.

During a meeting Thursday on immigration legislation, McCain and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) got into a shouting match when Cornyn started voicing concerns about the number of judicial appeals that illegal immigrants could receive, according to multiple sources -- both Democrats and Republicans -- who heard firsthand accounts of the exchange from lawmakers who were in the room.

At a bipartisan gathering in an ornate meeting room just off the Senate floor, McCain complained that Cornyn was raising petty objections to a compromise plan being worked out between Senate Republicans and Democrats and the White House. He used a curse word associated with chickens and accused Cornyn of raising the issue just to torpedo a deal.

Things got really heated when Cornyn accused McCain of being too busy campaigning for president to take part in the negotiations, which have gone on for months behind closed doors. "Wait a second here," Cornyn said to McCain. "I've been sitting in here for all of these negotiations and you just parachute in here on the last day. You're out of line."

McCain, a former Navy pilot, then used language more accustomed to sailors (not to mention the current vice president, who made news a few years back after a verbal encounter with Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont).

"[Expletive] you! I know more about this than anyone else in the room," shouted McCain at Cornyn. McCain helped craft a bill in 2006 that passed the Senate but couldn't be compromised with a House bill that was much tougher on illegal immigrants.

"Sam Johnson returned home to Texas after serving in the U.S. Air Force for 29-years as a highly decorated fighter pilot. He flew combat missions in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was a Prisoner of War in Hanoi for nearly seven years."

Yep. Good man. I guess he knew McCain in POW camp.

He used a curse word associated with chickens....

A curse word associated with chickens? What curse word is that? "Oh you egg layer"..What curse word is associated with chickens? Does he mean "chicken" as in "coward" and used the "p*ssy" word? Actually I think it would be good if they all cursed at each other... I live to see the day when Ted Kennedy is called a "drunk SOB" or Hillary a "c**t". Might wake some people up to the truth.

This Arizonan didn’t vote for McLame last time and he’s not gonna vote for him this time, cus’ his military service is no excuse for his dartboard “conservatism”.

And then there’s his being as scripted (see phony) as an illegal’s SS# thing too.

Hearing him speak makes me feel like I’ve gotta do a tour of a decon chamber.

The article gives me the impression Cornyn wanted to take credit for the immigration bill. Good luck with changing his mind.

McCain is not doing the job to which he was elected, so why is he capable of being President? He’s unstable. Period.

You need to rethink your timelines....The important ones are in February and March.. They are the Primaries... If we do not choose a candidate wisely it will not matter who wins in November. In other words 9 months. Less than half the time you are comfortable with.

I’m not a doctor; nor, do I play one on TV. I do, however, have some limited experience with combat related Post Traumatic Stess Disorder (PTSD). We renamed as PTSD what was called shell shocked as the symptom displayed by returning Vietnam combat troops. The MSM routinely tosses PTSD out of one of the pending veteran meltdowns related to WOT. They rarely, if ever, attribute even the possibility of this malady to their favorite senator (R-Ariz).

No one of the POWs could have endured the treatment they did without experiencing severe PTSD. The event you describe, sudden mood swings; violent outbursts; are just a few of the characteristics of classic mental disorders. His known actions alone make him potentially the most dangerous man in America. Elevate him to another truly high stress job; place his finger on the trigger; and one can easily imagine the unimaginable.

I know there are true conservatives who would crawl naked over broken glass to vote for John McCain (Ralph Peters) simply because of his stand on the WOT. As important as this single issue is, McCain’s socio-pathological behaviour on virtually every other issue near and dear to conservative hearts renders him totally unsuited and unfit for the Presidency.

Yep. Trial lawyers and Dems are a marriage made in Chicken H*%&. Then there’s things like Medved & Geraldo said today: it’s not amnesty cause they have to go to their home countries...as if that’s ever gonna happen.
