At the other end of the spectrum, immigrant rights groups also expressed alarm.
Under the proposal, guest workers could renew their two-year visas twice and be required to leave for a year between each stint in the United States. And, to gain permanent residency, the heads of households who are already here illegally would have to return to their home countries first.
"What, go back home?" said Maria Marroquin, director of the Day Worker Center in Mountain View. "This is totally inhuman. I don't know why they're treating immigrants like slaves in this country."
Marroquin said she was speaking for herself and not the agency, which matches people with temporary work.
Lillian Galedo, executive director of Filipinos for Affirmative Action in Oakland, said being a temporary worker may be as dangerous as working illegally, and she called the shift away from family ties a big problem.
Alex Franco, press coordinator of the Movement for an Unconditional Amnesty, a group involved in organizing this month's immigration rally in San Francisco, called the idea of putting more value on education immoral.

No don’t be a slave...just go home...be free..free to return to your village...good-bye...be well...just leave.
And herein lies the problem. They don't consider THIS COUNTRY their home. Mexico is considered home. They have no desire to assimilate and adopt American culture.
Why are we wasting time trying to bring democracy to a tyrannical, oil-rich state in the Mideast, when we can bring democracy to the tyrannical, oil-rich state on our southern border? Why do we permit a few families in Mexico City to keep all the oil wealth for themselves, keep their people in poverty, and assist them in flooding into our nation to use as their surrogate welfare program? Why don’t we demand $100,000 from Mexico, for every single illegal alien in America, and if they do not pay up, we take it ourselves by annexing their oil supply? How much longer is America going to permit itself to be pushed around?
“No dont be a slave...just go home...be free..free to return to your village...good-bye...be well...just leave”
Thank you, sir!
“And herein lies the problem. They don’t consider THIS COUNTRY their home. Mexico is considered home. They have no desire to assimilate and adopt American culture”
BINGO!
Well gee whiz and wilikers Maria, I just don’t understand that either.
It might have something to do with the Mexican governments official stance regarding the illegal immigration of their most unwanted and unproductive citizens to the USA, and the tithes the illegals are required to pay to Mexican government for the privilege of breaking USA laws.
Citizens of other countries see promise. Citizens of the United States see catastrophe. Whose side are the elected representatives of the United States citizens on? Why, they have sided with the citizens of other countries against the citizens they took an oath to represent.
If we could impeach the lot of them we should, the traitorous bastards.
Illegal immigrants have already shown complete disrespect for the laws of the United States and violation of our legal process to enter our sovereign nation. Let’s make them all citizens - What a great way to make sure that we invite the very best to become citizens - sarcasm/
That is on the best ideas I have heard on this subject. In reality, it would benefit both countries to take over Mexico’s government and institute true reforms. Mexico needs a healthy does of capitalism. Those 60 or so families are essentially a dictatorship over that country. We are allowing our beloved America to be destroyed because of Mexico’s utterly corrupt and immoral government.
right on, montag.
why would the same entity that claims to be waging a war on terror have a virtually open southern border?

Marroquim: “I don’t know why they’re treating immigrants like “slaves” in this country”
Perhaps, Marroquim has been listening to her friends from the organization, Workers World.
Workers World is an immigrant activist group that promotes socialism. They do not believe in the idea of “slavery” either.
“Franco, press coordinator of the Movement for Unconditional Amnesty called the idea of putting more value on education immoral”.
Their goal is to keep people uneducated and stupid so they can manipulate and brainwash people into their social and political agendas.
Our President and this Congress legacy 50 years from now will be the distruction of the United States of America.
How about Thompson/Hunter?
What’s wrong with going home and fixing the hellholes they came from? If anyone thinks this will keep more from coming, they’re nuts. Positive reinforcement and 20 per cent Hispanic population ...you don’t have to be Kreskin to see what’s about to happen. Good bye America. Hello Mini-Mexico. That Mexican govt. minister laid it all out a year ago when he told a California paper that Mexico was ‘integrating’ with the US and there wasn’t a thing we could do to stop it.
Insanity rampant....the idea that putting emphasis on more education is immoral. We’ve allowed Mexico to ethnically cleanse itself of its unwanted, the poor, illiterate, native Indians. One quarter of Mexico is already here and their middle class is packing for the trip north. Whole villages are empty, Mexico is depopulating, and doubtless the rest of the hemisphere is extremely interested. Not to worry. China needs someplace to stick its overpopulation. They can take over Mexico and points south.
Heroes on Flight 93: "Why did we roll and sacrifice our lives to save the White House and the traitors in Congress
when now Pres Bush and the Congress have sold out the rest of America and our children,
as they have secretly conspired to give the country away to criminal illegal aliens and murderous terrorists."
Geez, looks like at least half of our mexican neighbors in that picture stopped at McDonalds and swallowed it. What a bunch of tubs. Even the little kid on the left looks like he’d need to get weighed on a horse scale. I’d say that picture might be an allegory to what these illegals intend to inflict on America culture.
