This article is about the bill passed in 2006.

I thought that too, until he listed Jim Demints recent comments and they had a date of May 18, 2007 on it...but you may be right. Pretty much the same bill, unfortunately.

Yep, maybe, same bill you loved last year, Ben, maybe even a little worse.

See post 22.

Thanks for the contact info!

We need to tell our elected officials if they vote to let the illegals stay in the country, they can join them at Home Depot looking for jobs!

You are correct. This is just a resubmission of S.2611. What is modified in the bill negotiated behind closed doors this year in the Senate has not seen the light of day as yet. I can not understand why some posters on other threads object to the employee identification plan. I believe it was included in the Republican House version of border enforcement last year. This is the only thing in the 2006 bill that has some measure of teeth in it, assuming of course States and/or local municipalities choose to enforce it. Of course, the implementation of such a program might be challenged in the courts.

“Thompson/Powell ‘08”

Colin Powell, who worked up the Mexican Totalization agreement to give the SS store away to illegal aliens? Powell was as much of a problem in this mess as anyone.

http://www.state.gov/secretary/former/powell/remarks/38014.htm

Powell: So I’m here, really, for the 21st Binational Commission meeting, which has been a very, very successful meeting, and it demonstrates the strength of the relationship between the United States and Mexico. And I think was timely that I was able to come right after the President’s election to recommit America and the Bush Administration to our mutual efforts to move forward on migration, border security, and so many other issues that are of importance to Mexicans and Americans.

So I’m here, really, for the 21st Binational Commission meeting, which has been a very, very successful meeting, and it demonstrates the strength of the relationship between the United States and Mexico. And I think was timely that I was able to come right after the President’s election to recommit America and the Bush Administration to our mutual efforts to move forward on migration, border security, and so many other issues that are of importance to Mexicans and Americans.

President Bush is in his second term, his last term, and I think he plans to work more aggressively with the Congress, but to start in a reasonable way, a modest way — start with the temporary workers’ program, see if we can get that through, and then see where we go from there.

What we must not do is raise expectations too high so that if we are unable to reach those expectations there is great disappointment. We should have modest objectives that move us in the direction we wish to go. Remember, we are also working on the Social Security Totalization Agreement. There are other things we have done to have border control passes so that Mexicans using them can go for a longer period of time into the United States, and we’re doing a number of things that we think show to our Mexican friends that we respect them, we want them to come to the United States, we want to regularize their travel back and forth. When they come work, we want to make sure that they have the opportunity to return home.

SECRETARY POWELL: We believe that President Fox has fulfilled those expectations. He is a good friend of the United States. He and President Bush have a very strong personal relationship. They stay in very close touch with one another. We had a big disagreement. There’s no way to avoid this. We had a big disagreement over Iraq. But that disagreement is now behind us and we are doing everything to make sure that the Mexican people and the American people see two leaders, two governments, that are working as hard as they can to improve relations between our two governments and peoples for the sole purpose of improving life for the people of Mexico and the people of the United States, to give them the opportunity to go as far as their dreams will take them because we have created an economic situation and a political situation founded on democracy that will allow people to go as high as their willingness to work, their ambitions, and their dreams will take them.

Listen, the fight is against Amnesty.
You have to pick your battle. You cannot ignore that we have already and for the last 11 years been invaded by illigal immigrants.

What do you want to gather them up like cattle, men, women and children that we legally state we will support.

Please be reasonable. Not all illigals are trying to hurt our country! They have been permitted to work here.

Blame the President for not securing our borders.

Blame the employers who employee the illegals and may I say now support a form of slavery...hence low pay, no benefits, outragious work environments.

Your are telling me that now that there is a vote on a Bill..Now there is a problem?

If we allow them to gather up the illegal aliens and take them back...as many want. Do you know what that will look like?

I don’t know about you but the gathering of Jewish people in Germany comes to my mind. God forbid anyone dies or gets shot at...would you want that on your mind? Not me.

We have to be reasonable. What do you propose?

Reasonable? What has been given to America by Bush on immigration? NOTHING. He signed a bill for fencing that is wiped out in the new legislation. All we want is the current laws enforced, but to hear you tell it, THAT is too much to ask. Hope you enjoy the new America you are insisting on.

I am sorry, but the Govt, does not care what we think. It is a done deal. Bush ran on this Amnesty and someone mentioned it. I looked over what he said in the past. They are right...He said this long ago and we still voted for him. I guess it was not the hot topic at that time. We were to busy, trying to win against Kerry and we still lost!!

Bush and this Administration do not care what we think!!

They are not an Administration for Conservatives. They are a Govt.. unto themselves. And guess what we will pay for it all!!!! Jokes on US>

Wake up AuntB...this new America is here!

Look around you. Unless you live in the middle of no where

it is not the same America, we loved.

We can’t even pray before a Football game.
We can’t have a Fellowship of Christian Athelets instead we have Gay/Lesbian/transgender Clubs.
Ten commandments removed,Sir and Maam thing of the past.
Did you know children as young as 14 can have abortions,Plan B and not notify parents?
Is this the America you are speaking of now?

I don't know about you, but it angers me to see idiots trivialize Nazi genocide victims by comparing their fate to the minor difficulties facing today's immigration-law violators.
