MEXICO CITY, May 19 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia and Nicaragua “begin a new stage of relations striving to consolidate friendship and cooperation in all spheres,” Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega said on Friday during a meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kislyak who heads the Russian delegation at a regular round of Russian-Nicaraguan political consultations held in the capital of this Central American country.

Daniel Ortega pointed to the “historical character” of relations of cooperation between Russia and Nicaragua, as well as stated “closeness or similarity of the two countries’ stances on majority of international issues.”

As a joint Russian-Nicaraguan statement for the press stresses, “a considerable potential of development of cooperation between the two countries in the political and economic fields was marked during talks, which becomes apparent already in interaction within the framework of the United Nations and different international organizations.”

“The sides consider expanding of cooperation in the energy sphere, construction of hydrotechnical facilities, development of tourism, upgrading of the transport infrastructure, as well as an increase of export of Russian machines, equipment and technologies to Nicaragua as promising,” the joint statement stresses.

When the Communist Ortega talks about, the “closeness or similarity of the two countries’ stances on majority of international issues,” he is referring to KGB Putin’s position as leader and inspiration of anti-American communist and Islamist dictators all around the world, from Hugo Chavez to the ayatollahs.

I would have to agree with you, except that this "new era" is much worse than the old "cold war", IMHO.

Russia and the communists (as well as other dictators) around the world have much more of a foothold nowadays -- even in this country where our younger generations have been duped into thinking Socialism is going to be the "savior" of the needy, and they have no clue that socialism in today's world is merely a 'nice' way to say Communist Dictatorship. [See "Father Chávez" (as his supporters refer to him) and Venezuela for the most recent example of this.]

Bush may have called to congratulate Ortega, but I wouldn't take that to mean he is all that happy about Putin increasing his influence in South America -- unless of course Bush really is a so-called globalist as some think... (I have to admit Bush has confused me lately as to where he stands on these things given the up and coming North American Union Plans, and the push for amnesty for illegal aliens in this country).

Anyway, I wouldn't dismiss these developments as meaningless, and unthreatening -- unless of course you like the prospect of losing your liberty. The communists in our world have been biding their time and creeping ever so slowly along the path they laid out years ago. It's too bad some think that when the Berlin wall fell the threat ended -- if anything it's worse because they are not being open about their intentions.

What we face today has nothing to do with Russian people.

It has to do with Muslim insurgents...they have been for quite a while now. And their commie, leftist and secular sympathizers in this country and abroad are certainly NOT Russian. Most Russians I know are Christian Orthodox or Christian of any number of sects.

As for Putin increasing his influence in this hemisphere: Well—tit for tat. We are increasing our influence in Putin’s neighborhood (not that it is all bad mind you)—and so far it has led to instability. If you had crazy jihadis on your doorstep you would certainly want to build bridges wherever you could.

In fact, Putin is one of the few leaders who insist on Kosovo remaining part of Serbia while we are pell mell seeking to make another independent jihadi haven in Europe!

Not you tell me who’s on the right side...it’s a crazy world but less crazy with Putin at the helm. We need to continue building our bridges with the Russian federation. Now more than ever.
