I hope this is not going to deteriorate into a bash Bush thread today - it is something I must admit I have been dreading all week.

Dodd thinks that we will increase our safety if we just get out of Iraq. (Alice in Wonderland could not do better than that.)

Newt says it’s legislating defeat...which of course it is.

However, Newt is not comfortable with the current situation in Iraq and our limited use of statecraft (which worked so well with Iran and its nuclear program).

I too hope I am wrong.
Sad to say, he has been beaten up so bad since the beginning
without throwing any punches back. He tried the “New Tone” deal but that failed miserably.

“W” is a great guy, just a terrible communicator.

I agree with you, snugs. Sometimes we focus too much on one issue, and are not thankful for all W has done.

Although immigration is a HUGE single issue. W has always said he was against amnesty. Seeing the definition as posted elsewhere on FR, he still is - although the 'punishment' he has in mind is NOT NEARLY TOUGH ENOUGH. I want to see current laws enforced FIRST.

Unfortunately it might be snugs. Most of the anger is about the whole immigration issue which has come to a boil. And not only does the anger exist on the right, much of the blue collar left is furious over the Senate deal. Here in California immigrants, legal and illegal, have taken over entire classes of work, including food services, dry wall workers, all manual labor construction jobs, landscaping work, pipe laying, brick masons and others, depressing overall wages in the process.
