There are a whole lot of LA transplants in Tucson. And they’re not white. (or black or Asian) They speak English. They are escaping the violence, drugs, and gangs of LA. And the nonassimilating. They have apparently been educated in LA schools to speak English. While they are more than able to speak Spanish fluently, they speak English first.

There are Spanish radio stations in Tucson. I have driven the children of Mexican immigrants places, and I turn on Spanish radio to see what they will do. They tell me to turn the channel and that their parents don’t want them to listen to that. These children attend the worst schools in Tucson. (they really are bad!!!) There are certainly pockets of nonassimilators, but they are mostly interested in working and earning enough money to be able to do the same things that other Americans have been doing for generations.

So you’re saying I should ignore all the Mexican-looking-sounding (accent) folks and how they are as American as this white girl???????

There are Spanish radio stations in Tucson

I know. Want to know how many there were in 1970? One. That's it. One. How do I know? Was born there in the 50's and raised there. I remember the first sign in Spanish in Tucson that I saw: in 1976.

You're a newcomer, and you see it as it is now. You have no idea what it was. Or what was considered ordinary. The Mexican population of Tucson in 1960 was under 10%. And had been that way since the 1850's. Know why? Because Mexico, and the Mexicans, never got much north of La Frontera. And the few that did were irrelevant. Think California Bear Flag Rebellion on that one.

It's a popular misconception of Easterners to think that the Southwest "has always been Mexican", and maybe you're one of them. It wasn't. It was populated by the Americans, mainly from the midwest (ever wonder who rode the railroads west? Or why they built them?).

The only reason you are seeing "assimiliation" or some cheap facsimile of it in Tucson is precisely because of what I said: there are still more Americans there. For now. That area is targeted by the Mexican government, so expect more. Soon.

And it's because of Sob Sisters like you that this crap is happening. You vote for weakness because you believe in accomodation. It's a female thing, right? Pobrecitos and all that. What you are doing is bringing in the support structure for Mexican corruption and criminality, which is what that country and culture are about. Hey, I'm from Tucson, ya know? We all know about Nogales and Sonora.

BTW, howdja like that big gun battle in Cananea the other day? Fun huh? Coming to a suburb near you. Don't believe me? Drive out Ajo Way to Three Points in the early morning hours and check out who's on the road with you. Suggestion: take a gun.

Think I'm being a little harsh? Wrong. Even Tucson used to be a relatively crime free town. Not anymore. Los Inmigrantes bring their country with them. Last year my own father was taken hostage in his home and terrorized for hours by your 'assimilados'. Since I was already hard line on this, you can't say that it radicalized me. It just confirmed what I knew: Mexico is uncivilized and has been for 5 centuries, and it isn't going to change. And because of the MASSIVE influx from there due to their overpopulation relative to their economy, the place that will change is AMERICA, and not MEXICO. Even Tucson is a far more Mexican place now then when I grew up...or even from when my Mother lived there in the '40s. Can you say that Hermosillo, or Guaymas, or Obregon, or Culiacan, or Los Mochis are "more American"?

So your "they'll assimilate" bleating is nonsense. As soon as they have a critical mass...no sale. They stay Mexican. After all, it's their land, right? The Pope gave it to them in 1495. The gabachos stole it in 1846. Just ask them. And if you're a Guera Gringa, don't expect the truth.
