No amnesty for politicians who supported this.
I heard chucky and Hillary dont like it and slimy harry is just following orders
The Senate has not invoked cloture on this bill. The bill has been delayed from consideration, most probably their are to many objections to parts or all of the bill and cloture would not pass anyway. A cloture vote may come later however. I would expect to see more opposition in the House to the Senate bill as even the democrats are being pressured by their union supporters to dump the temporary worker portion of the bill. Blue collar union workers do not wish to see further encroachment into their industries by more temporary or permanent residents, legal or illegal.
Any thing that delays this is good, because they were trying to ram this through before anyone could read it. Now the weak-kneed RINOs will get two weeks’ worth of FAXes and e-mails and phone calls. I’m hoping this is now the death knell of this bill.
Yeah, like I’m going to forget my priorities within two weeks.
Lol. That was really funny.
” And the GOP supports him [Brownback] as a candidate.”
Not really, he’s dismal in the Prez polls.
Poor guy cant figure out why -— it’s the amnesty!
Exactly... this is critical - they have shown who they are now. This MUST be remembered! This has exposed the RINO's!!
Betting on short attention spans.
This would be a "good thing", a "very good thing" if you ask me!!!
And the republicans that voted against it are going to reminded for 2 weeks by Bush and Mel Martinez that they'd better fall in line.
Drag out the water cannons and help them out.
Drag out the water cannons and help them out.
OOOooh! So?
Not really - the GOP party is solidly behind this bill. Both Bush and Mel Martinez, the leaders of the GOP, are pushing for this bill big time, so it could be said that GOP is the pro-amnesty party.
One thing is for sure, Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) has guaranteed that he will be a one term senator. The democrats in the state aren't going to vote for him and he has pissed off at least half of the GOP base in the state. He is toast.
Since approximately 4000 percent of the country is absolutely fed up with illegal immigration (heard an earful of denunciation from both Left and Right on NPR today), less time would have been better for sponsors of the Senate's new immigration atrocity. Their first choice would be to pass the insane bill before anyone realizes what's in it. That hasn't happened.
More time is better for us, to pick apart the ludicrous provisions of this bill one by one, and sell the fundamental ideas contained in a CONTRARY initiative. That initiative should have a name, a program, a worthy leader, and specific provisions. Politicians seeking Americans' vote should be invited (given an ultimatum) to sign onto it, promising to enact and fight for it. Like the Contract with America, only simpler.
In short, if some loonies on the Left want to make immigration the core of the 2008 campaign for the control of Congress and the Presidency, let them. If they don't, we should. It could not be a better issue for conservatives, since Democratic voters will support it, too. After all, many of them thought that's what they were getting when they voted Democrat in 2006.
Think of it: a bi-partisan campaign to shut down illegal immigration. Has a nice ring to it.
Great job, but it is just a battle folks. We need to win the War.
“They are feeling the heat. I expect a midnight voice vote one evil night soon.”
If there are enough votes to passed in the Senate, wouldn’t it have to go to the House to be voted on? I am not up on procedure! Thanks for imforming me!
Putting this bill off for 2 weeks is pure BS. It should have never made it past the cloture vote.
Elitist Bastards!
