Normal families with two or three children have problems if two kids are born a year and a half apart; the mother has a new baby to deal with right at the point at which the first kid should be taking the biggest steps in learning how to talk. You seem unaware that for the vast bulk of human history families this have size been pretty normal across all cultures. Really you should read more.

Here's a clue - the father is also there much of the time and the other children are well spoken and do just fine for teaching language skills.

Let the Duggars breed like sex-addled jackrabbits if they wish. It's far preferable to leave them to their own devices, as a Family Unit, than for the "Community" to take an interest of any sort.

Being Catholic, with my daughter in Catholic school, I have the opportunity to see a number of very large families, and, in my experience, the children in large families (6+ children) seem much more mature, responsible, and even happier.

These are just my observations, but they have been striking enough for me to wish I had had more children at a younger age.
