UN torture commission accuses Poland
22.05.2007
The U.N. Committee Against Torture is criticizing Polish police for using brutal interrogation techniques, too long detentions without trial and inciting violence and hatred towards sexual minorities.
It is also asking Warsaw for more information on the alleged CIA prisons on Polish soil.
The organization points in its latest report that operations of Polish police, situation in Polish prisons and the flabbiness of the Polish judiciary system are still questionable.
According to the group, Polish officials had denied reports their country housed covert prisons for Central Intelligence Agency terrorism suspects. The Committee has urged Warsaw to make public internal findings on the issue including the scope, methodology and conclusions of the enquiry into those allegations conducted by the Polish Parliament. The U.N. Committee Against Torture investigates compliance with the international treaty banning torture which has been ratified by 144 countries.
Hey U.N., why don’t you take a trip to Bejing???
...inciting violence and hatred towards sexual minorities....
^^
What in the heck are sexual minorities? Last time I checked, one is either male or female. Sometimes males are in the minority and sometimes females are in the minority.
Who chairs the committee, Sudan?
Hey, UN frauds — there’s a long, long list of countries you should be hassling before you even utter the name of Poland in this context...... let’s start with the PRC, Russia, Iran, Cuba, Zimbabwe, Venezuela, Myanamar, virtually ALL of the Arab League member states, etc. etc. etc.
The spectacle of these depraved UN pukes hassling and smearing great democracies while ignoring all the really bad offenders in the world is just much too nauseating.....
The UN is accusing anyone of anything? Do they know that nobody cares what they do? We all know about the UN corruption and sleaze. Why are we paying for this?
I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that Poland has been a steadfast ally of the US. Of course, there are no obvious human rights violations for the UN to worry about in China, Cuba, North Korea, the Sudan, Burma, Iran, Uzbekistan....
And stay there.
F the UN and thank you Poland for hosting our secret CIA prisons. If you did.
Ignore the UN....they are about as useless as they come. I thought we were going to take the UN building and make it low income housing. It would put that building to better use. We need out of that outfit and now.
If it wasn’t for the UN we wouldn’t be in Iraq today.
Sure we did not ;-)
Since when it is any business of the UN what Poland does. Why don’t the take a look at Dafur if they are truly worried about injustices.
oops, how did I ever leave the vicious trolls of North Korea off that list of worst human rights offenders???
My thoughts exactly.
The Poles I've known (and hired) are very intelligent folks. I would be amazed to learn that Poland didn't learn a few things while it was occupied by the USSR...
Unfortunately, this “too long detentions without trial” is something that has to be improved in Poland. I know several cased when this has been going on for years.
