In this exclusive 10-part series, IBD takes a hard look at Jimmy Carters administration and compares it to that of George W. Bush, which Carter has called the worst ever.
Installments will cover the economy, foreign policy, human rights, dealing with dictators, fighting Communism and the Democratic leadership in general during times of war.
Next installment: Wednesday, May 23
Part One
Leadership: So Jimmy Carter calls the Bush administration "the worst in history." This from the man who wrecked the world's greatest economy and made a nuclear Iran and North Korea possible.
Part Two
Leadership: When it comes to economic performance, there's no contest: Apart from the early years of the Depression, Jimmy Carter's brief tenure as president was the worst in the 20th century.
Having lived through the 48 months of gross incompetence that was Jimmy Carter’s one term Presidency....I don’t know if I want to be reminded of all the ways he screwed up.
—ping me, please-—
bump
INTREP
Domestically....GAS LINES......Interest rates for mortgages at 12-17%.....just to name two things that were really bad.
I was 13 years old when the peanut farmer was elected and I do owe him a debt of gratitude.....he turned me into a conservative and someone who is as anti-liberal as they come....
The article does not explain how Carter ruined the American economy. I wish someone would explain exactly how one man ruined our economy. The article goes on to chastise Carter (rightfully so) about his actions after his presidency.
I think Carter is an embarrassment to the U.S. but I still haven't seen where he singlehandedly ruined our economy.
LOL, love it. Thanks IBD!
This is the real damage Jimmy Carter did. He refuses to acknowledge the harm he has done to the world. But what the heck, he is popular with the leftists.
I thought we were talking about Klintoon.
If you’re getting up a ping list for this series, please add me.
- Carter turned over the Panama Canal to our enemies.
- Carter ignored genocide in the Cambodian killing fields.
- Carter betrayed the pro-American Somoza family in Nicaragua and allowed the Marxists to take over.
- Carter betrayed the Shah of Iran (the greatest ally America had ever had in the region) and allowed the jihadists to take a foothold.
- Carter did nothing (except dash the dreams of Olympic athletes) when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan and allowed the stage to be set for the Taliban and al Qaida.
- Carter betrayed Taiwan to the Chicoms.
- Carter did nothing while Americans were held hostage on American soil for 444 days.
- Carter forced Israel to make dangerous concessions to their enemies.
And he managed to do all of this while overseeing the worst economy imaginable. There is NO ECONOMIC MODEL that even suggests that it is possible to simultaneously have back-to-back recessions, economic stagnation, high unemployment, a stagnant stock market, high inflation and high interest rates -- any economist will tell you that these should start cancelling each other out. And then in the midst of it all, he had the audacity to blame the american people for the "malaise" he created.
If ever there was a "Manchurian Candidate" it was Jimmy Carter.
Well, Jimmy has finally run his mouth too much. Huge congrats to IBD for taking up the cudgel and giving this egregious fool the smackdown he has long needed.
All of us old enough to remember Carter’s absolutely feckless administration will want to read this series. Those of you younger Freepers should make it ‘must read’.
21 1/2 percent interest. That’s what we paid to finance a piece of mining equipment in 1979.
‘I was 13 years old when the peanut farmer was elected and I do owe him a debt of gratitude.....he turned me into a conservative and someone who is as anti-liberal as they come....’
My first time voting was for Ford over Carter. I entered the Navy the following July, and ended my time in service floating off the coast of Iran waiting for the orders that never came....
And it can't either. Government changes in economic policies take more than a few years to effect the economy. Now one could possibly say Carter's policies of '76 and '77 were to blame for the continuation of the recession into the early '80s perhaps but most likely what we were dealing with (beside outside economic forces) was partially the change from the gold standard in '72
It was when I was 5-9 years old. I will never forget the pain my parents went through during those years. Carter and Reagan are the two reasons why I have been a lifelong conservative.
After watching enlisted men and women apply for food stamps as a direct result of Carter eliminating the savings realized by shopping on base for groceries, I lost all respect for him.
Many don’t recall Carter was trying to increase the retirement requirements for all military members from 20 years to 30, just before the hostage crisis he brought about erupted.
I can’t explain how much I despise Jimmy Carter in mere words.
