...At least nine U.S. service members were killed in combat and by bombs across Iraq on Tuesday and six were wounded, the U.S. military said Wednesday.
During May, 81 U.S. military personnel have died, bringing the total since the war began to 3,432, including seven civilian employees of the Defense Department.

and the Drive By Media celebrates......
Screw nation building in Iraq, it’s time for full-out revenge...
I read the article and didn’t see anything that looked or sounded like a celebration.
we are on offense now. thats why the body count is higher than it was before.
This is sadly what happens when we try to fight a war with gloves on and in a politically correct manner. Cursed be all our elected politicians that tie our soldiers hands and prevents our military from doing its job.
“I read the article and didnt see anything that looked or sounded like a celebration.”
Not in this article, but you know the TV Drive Bys on the usual networks like to report this stuff because it allows them to attack the Bush Adminstration.
The way our modern media reports on military happenings and not putting them into context compared to wars of the past, is a great diservice to us all and is only making it harder to win this war and future wars.
Having said that one US Solider’s death is one too many, IMO. Again I fear our guys hands are still being tied despite the earlier talk this year that was going to change. I really hope I am wrong saying that.
This damn Iranian involvement has got to end one way or another.
I routinely travel to military bases throughout the world, I just got back from spending 8 wks at various military bases in the far east, and stayed at a number of BOQs. None of them have Fox news, it’s exclusively CNN or MSN or BBC for cable news in english, and I never heard anything on these news shows out of context or what sounded like a clelbration.
This was bound to happen. Part of the surge strategy was to get the troops out amoung the populace to offer greater security. The flipside is that they become easier targets.
We are in this position because we didn’t bulldoze that place in March 2003. We won the Iraq war easy...it has been the aftermath which has been a struggle, and it didn’t have to be.
Politicians running a war...bad news.

the ‘Iraqization’ thing does not seem to be working
” never heard anything on these news shows out of context or what sounded like a clelbration.”
Makes people feel better to vent whether true or not. Let’s them blame the media.
We're being a little more aggressive with our defense, but you still can't call the way we're fighting this war "offense".
"Iran is secretly forging ties with al-Qaida elements and Sunni Arab militias in Iraq in preparation for a summer showdown with coalition forces intended to tip a wavering US Congress into voting for full military withdrawal, US officials say."

“Vietnam era death rates”? We are a long way from 58,000.
In World War II we could lose thousands in a day. A horror, a tragedy so terrible we have no words to express it; but to lose 4 or 5 or even 9 is not comparable, especially when you consider that this war is as important to our survival as that one was.
If that's the case then the administration needs to get out in front of this and make sure everybody knows it.
“We’re being a little more aggressive with our defense, but you still can’t call the way we’re fighting this war “offense”.”
thats probably a good way of putting it. i talked to a few guys over there and they were saying they are doing alot more combat operations since petreaus took command compared with before.
the administration doesnt know of the word communication. they have the worst pr department i have ever seen.
