GRASSLEY UNVEILS TOP 10 FLAWS WITH AMNESTY AND GUEST WORKER OF COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM BILL
Website of Senator Grassley (Iowa) ^ | May 23, 2007 | Senator Chuck Grassley

WASHINGTON --- Sen. Chuck Grassley today said the immigration reform bill being debated in the U.S. Senate is riddled with loopholes and flaws. During a speech on the Senate floor, he outlined for the American people nearly 30 flaws within only two sections of the bill.

“I was burned once in 1986 when I voted for amnesty believing that it would solve our problems. Now, we have a 12 million illegal immigrant problem. I’m not getting burned again,” Grassley said. “Not only do we have a glide path to citizenship, but it’s a glide path with plenty of loopholes that don’t meet the common sense test.”

Didn’t Grassley vote for cloture the other day?

Perhaps this will “set the tone” for the proceedings

I would point out that Sen. Grassley’s top ten are only a small portion of problems with the Senate bill. He does not even address the ‘guest’ worker issue for example.

Didn't Grassley actually vote for cloture on this traversty? Maybe the fuss the folks back home are raising is having a success. Let's keep it up!

BTW, has anyone every heard a plumber say "We can't shut off the water until we have a comprehensive plan for fixing the leaking pipe" or "We can't shut off the water until we figure out a way to shut it off 100%"?

Some one should offer an amendment demanding how to pay for this monstrosity. Once people understand they’ll be on the hook for 2.3-2.5 trillion to pay for this latest vote buying scheme it’ll be DOA.

Lest we give Grassley to much credit, I would also point out his Senate website is also available for viewing En Español.

How Iowa can send Grassley & Harkin to the US Senate remains a mystery to me...

I think the man in quicksand bank commercial summs up immigration reform.

One man is drowning in quicksand and all his group save one, immediatiatly forms a committee to study the problem with sub commitees to report to the committee.

The one banker just tosses a rope to the drowing man.

(kind of like when we used to joke Bill Clinton does not fight he only launches blue ribbon committees)

It's my understanding he DID.

Plus, he spent the entire weekend running around the state dissing the bill. I just can't figure out WHY he voted for cloture.

Possibly to get a vote and a record. Maybe he knows that it won’t pass?

I know him well, and he’s pretty Conservative.

I just don’t see him taking a risk of this type.

If this ‘bill’ is the work product of a US elected official, then he is OVREPAID and in the wrong job!

Also not taking risks are all the Senators running for President. They didn’t vote at all.

I just read Hugh Hewitt, who is encouraging people to call in to complain about it and he said that the legislation last week was a shoo in and now it’s 50-50. He encourages voters to continue to call in and complain about the legislation.

BTW he also finds a cite of John Boehner who allegedly referred to this as a piece of s%@# legislation.

The bill would treat lawbreakers better than the American people.

This quote sums up my opinion on the entire illegal immigration issue with and without respect to this legislation. These clymers care more about the vote they want than they do about the vote they got.

The People in Iowa must be pounding these two with emails, phone calls, etc. I sent an email to both and I received a reply back from Harkin that made me re-look to see who sent it. Harkin is totally against most of the Bill as written, at least that’s what he said.

I’m sure in the end he would vote with the rest of the TRAITORS.

Maybe it would take some calls to the liberal Senators to say if that’s what Senator Ted wants, then where is our tax amnesty? Why should we pay if they don’t? Why should we follow laws that Senator Ted passes if the laws don’t apply equally?
